So due to overall positive response to my previous suggestion for a Red-specific jobs / rentals website (32 in favor, 1 against, 1 abstaining), I've gone ahead and set one up. If you're interested in renting or flogging your Red online, please sign up:

www.redconnector.com

I'd also encourage people to upload images to their user galleries. Right now, the front page slideshow is stocked with some stuff from a film of mine (35mm, not Red) - I'd really like to get people's Shot-on-Red stuff up there for the world to see.

I'm open to changes / improvements, so feel free to post comments to this thread, or contact me directly if something's broken. (But be kind - I'm not making any money off of this. I did it primarily to give back to the community, and because a forum is not a great format for this sort of application.) I'll be flogging it to producers a bit at NAB, so get your signup in soon!

Enjoy.

Sorry for cross posting, I also built something very similar a while back, it's not just for RED's rentals but we've got 21 packages listed.

Anyone can list their equipment, and rates. Renters can search by area, equipment type, and availability. Renters can request a reservation online, and owners can manage their rental requests via the back end. Both parties can leave feedback after a rental.

Check it out if you're interested. It's also free.

Big Thanks meeotch, great idea. See you at NAB.

Yes - I should have noted Ed's site. (Nice-looking design, Ed!) But I don't think we're in "competition," necessarily. I really felt that there needed to be a Red-specific site, to make the userbase more easily navigable for producers looking to hire/rent.

For one thing, it makes it easier to search based on lens mount type, recording media, accessories, or other Red-related details. And the other benefit would be having people's Red images front-and-center in a showcase - rather than buried in forum postings.

It's really meant to be an adjunct to the forums community, the way redhax is for tech info, or redrelay is for footage... redconnector for gigs.

I agree with meeotch, not really in competition with each other. I built my site for any equipment (and as an experiment to see if a 'social' renting site was workable).
In my mind the more places the kit is listed the greater the chance it will get rented!

Ditto on the site design by the way very, nice header and lovely clean layout. Drupal based?

@Ed: Ha - yeah, totally Drupal.

Anyway, going to try and get Producer accounts up and running this weekend, and maybe a new slideshow. Will post again with an update. Keep those signups coming!

Ha! You apparently didn't watch the slideshow for long enough... there are quite a few of those in there.

But actually, I meant the slideshow software itself. I may install something more slick. The content has to come from the users... Feel free to post a few of your own images. I'd like to take down the placeholder ones that are currently there before NAB.

o.k. - so as promised, I've enabled "producer accounts" on redconnector. If you don't want to list any equipment or services, you can sign up for one of these. It allows you to use the search & contact functions, but doesn't put you in the listings.

Also, the slideshow has been restocked with some great images from our new users. Thanks to the folks that uploaded... And keep the signups & gallery uploads coming!

Off to NAB in about an hour. Feel free to yell at me if you see me. Look for the Red hair. (Really red. Like painfully red.)

Another quick update: I've fixed an issue that may have been causing the site to look garbled in Internet Explorer 7. (And if you're using IE7, go immediately to www.getfirefox.com - you can thank me later.) Anyway, if anyone was having trouble seeing the site before, please try again.

Also, yet another update to the slideshow. Thanks to everyone who's uploaded gallery images - and keep 'em coming!

p.s. - Good meeting some of you folks at NAB.
