Over the weekend I went up to the Redding area to this property that my Dad and I own. Its 365 acres inside a canyon. This was the first week that we had quads up there and that makes it way easier to get around. Some of the roads that we go on are very narrow. Some of them look like old wagon trails. Next time I go up there I'm going to try and get some shots from on the quad going up the trail.

Anyway, here's a picture of the quad loaded up with the gear.

Lol, love the music. Reminds me of O Brother Where Art Thou.

That's a lot of property. How's the light polution out there at night?

Mike, the clouds were at 1fps. It was really windy out of the canyon so they were moving kind of fast. Also that shot I cheated a little bit and brought up the mids on the trees in FCP because I was exposed for the clouds. So its really two of the same shot put together at different exposures.

Tom, the music is from the "Cold Mountain" soundtrack. "O Brother Where Art Thou" would have been a good chose of music also. I don't think there is any light pollution out there. Redding, which is the major city in that area is 30 minutes away and there's a town of 250 people a couple miles away from us. I was going to get some star timelapse out there this last time because there was no moon. But I was a little too sick to stay out there all night. Next I go up there its on my list of things to do.

Hi Drew,

I am d/l'ing your footage now. Thank you!

I would highly recommend a Cine saddle by Cinekinetic if you do not already have one. It was the first thing that came to mind when I read your statement and saw your ATV. I have used them for years in everything from helicopters to speeding bass boats... I have always been very happy with the results and it does an excellent job of vibration dampening in a myriad of situations.

Cheers Drew,

Andrew Benz

ps-- Never worked for Cinekinetic, I just have had great success with the cine saddle. Just my 2 cents.

I'll have to keep that Cine saddle idea in my mind for when I go back up there. I was either going to do something like that or just have someone else drive the ATV or just film from in the 4-wheel drive pickup we have there also. But that thing is a little scary going back on those roads. Might make for some good footage though.

Drew,

Is this terrain of yours for rent for shoots or would you consider renting it? If so, where exactly is it and what type of facilities, if any, are there available? GPS coordinates would work well for me also. The place looks like it could double for a few areas of Europe where we need to shoot, but getting the right equipment there would be far more difficult than anywhere in the States.

Rudi, its funny you bring that up about using the property as a location because I was talking it over with my other investor last week when I was up there and he liked the idea. Just as long as the place doesn't get trashed. The services that we have up there are limited. But the town is 3.5 miles away from the area and Redding is 30 minutes away. There's also a couple creeks up there along with a couple old mines that are over a hundred years old. We have a base camp out there that is the staging area for when we go out. Plus we have equipment to cut roads and clear them. Its staffed by personal that work out there clearing the roads and guarding the property.
