Hi all,

Just started playing with Redcine 1.04 on a PC, in preparation for a job I'm editing shortly. I need to convert the .r3d files to DNxHD quicktimes for editing in Avid. I have been able to do this but I can't see any way to access any codec options for that or indeed any other codec. Is there something I'm missing here?

Interesting. So I'd since found out that Redcine only outputs the Avid DNxHD 115 codec. When you select DNxHD, there's no option for bitrate selection. But I until just now I hadn't actually checked the import into the Avid and much to my surprise, it fast imported and is actually 185 X! Result.

All my tests have shown it is 115 for "NTSC" flavored workflows, but I have been doing it on a Mac. I will try again. Our "PAL" friends have found it to br 185x as a default. 23.976 is 175.. so it sounds about right for 25fps to be 185.

Test if the 185x is actually 10bit..? I'll cash bet it's not.

I've never been able to render out 10bit Avid quicktime wrapped file and see all 10bits in Avid (MCA HD or Symphony). I've only ever been able to get 10bits in from tape.

This will be critical for me with Red.

If MichaelP could test this I would be very very appreciative.

thanks

Well here's the thing. Looking at the movie inspector in Quicktime doesn't tell me the actual DNxHD flavour but i can see that the movie is 180mbits ish.

In a 1080 50i project, the quicktimes I rendered from Redcine fast imported and claimed to be 185 X. Weirdly though, when i fired up a 1080 25p project, I couldn't get the QTS to fast import. However, after doing several more tests on other r3ds, the same thing happened each time. They always fast imported into 1080 50i project and reported to be 185 X.

I'm running MC 2.7 on a PC.
