taking 2000 exposures of in front of a dripping faucet to get the perfect spherical lens shot ??

Who knows, but I had a great time.........

Cheers,
Mark.

Wow, Mark.
Amazing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Red Bull famous for never having TV ads apart from their animations (in America, at least, but it was the same in South Africa last time I checked)?

I know some people who pitched extensively to them when they were considering changing that stance. Did their best, but nothing stuck.

If you got them to change their mind, congrats indeed!

And yes, it's a great spherical droplet ;)

2,000 frames? haha, nice. "anything to get the shot." that pretty much sums up the kind of shooters i like.

tell us how you did this.

Tom,
I rigged up a flood security light for ambient light, filled up a shot glass with water, lined up the drip on the rear lip, got the drip to land there consistently so that I could set focal distance, once focused moved the glass so the drop zone was in a part of the glass to create a water droplet and then placed the can behind the setup. If anyone tries this remember to turn the can upside down as refraction flips it like a lens. It was then down to just trying to synchronize the shutter to the droplet at the peak of its trajectory, hence the 2000 exposures.

Settings: Canon 400D - Tamron 90mm f2.8 @ 90mm - ISO400 @ f11 for 1/200th (maximum flash sync speed). I then also had my aforementioned security flood light.

This is more for fun than anything but I do have a friend who happens to be the top guy in SA for marketing at Red Bull. He's looking at the shot right now. Ooops, is that the phone?

Cheers for all the words guys, happy to share.

Mark.
