So...

Given that (a) our Carrion LCD monitor is going to be a little big for lightweight hand-held (and possibly steadicam) and (b) I don't want to buy a Red LCD (due to cost and it's proprietary nature), does anyone know of a decent (not necessarily fantastic for colour or focus) small, light LCD monitor with either an HDMI or DVI input?

A cheap 'n' cheerful consumer monitor would be fine for most applications, at least short-term.

Can't seem to find one anywhere...

manufacturer's aren't putting hdmi into small units SFAIK, and you wont get
hd-sdi for under 2k for an 8" monitor.

Ikan and Marshall both make nice LCD's but the lowest prices one that can work with red with out and additional converter box is a marshall which
has hd-sdi and is 2k about.

I forgot to mention lsdesigns which looks to be a nice monitor, but again 1500 for the base model

price on the RED Lck with arm and cable is a pretty good deal!! arm would be about $150 and cable with lemos made for about 200 so 350 off 1750 = $1400 for an HD monitor????

Good news - thanks Matt. Yet to receive ours, so just going on images, but it looks pretty chunky so I figured it might be a little heavy to get a nicely balanced rig out of. Now hoping it'll be fine...

I'm not going to buy a $1,800 LCD monitor just for framing on a few handheld shots from any manufacturer, and certainly not when it only works on one specific camera. But I can understand, having seen one in the flesh, that a lot of people will be very happy with it - it certainly is light. If I had more funds at my disposal it wouldn't be an issue, but I don't, so it is!

Looks like I might have found a way to plumb in my old (and admittedly rather shitty!) Lilliput 7" SD monitor via HDMI->DVI->VGA (!), so that's going to be another option - hopefully between the two I'll be happy as Larry.

Thanks for all the help and advice as ever y'all!
