SIModified accessories will be available for viewing not only at the REDUSER room, but also at the Thales-Angenieux booth C5323.

At Cinegear, we will have our usual booth, showing off our sales and rental items.

Hi John,

I really like your system and thank you for the videos, they are very helpful. I have a couple questions if you don't mind...

a) How is the SIModified RED handheld Bracket coming along? How much will it be? Will you also be developing handles? If so is there a ballpark price?

b) Will we have to provide the battery plate for the Red handle and install it ourselves or is there an option with SIM? My thought is that you guys could do this much better than I could... I hung up soldering kit many years ago ;-)

c) What batteries are you guys using?

d) Will you guys be putting together any more videos of your kit in action on set (or while testing)... Things like this would inspire more people to look at your excellent solution and trigger sales.

e) Does it really take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery?

Thank you John for your time, I will not be getting out to NAB so any info here is quite helpful.

Cheers,

Andrew

I guess I will have to wait until NAB (from the web- I cannot go due to work)... or I just asked a lot of crappy questions.:pinch: :)

John, I am very interested in the SIM solution for my various non-hardlined EFP work. Just looking for some info. from a group of pros who just happen to own 50+ Reds... something tells me you guys might be slightly informed on the subject.

Cheers,

Andrew

ps- I am in the market to purchase this week... but will have to wait I guess.

Hi Andrew:

Sorry, not crappy questions, just missed the last post......

A) We will have the final shoulder plate in our hands early next week. There will be a pad included that can be affixed, but you can also use your own.
B) If you use V-Lock, purchase a RED Battery Plate and attach it.
C) SWIT 8170s - We have several hundred, and the crews love them. They split for legal transport (each peice is less than 8G Lithium)
D) More Videos to come next week
E) Email Sales@simvideo.com, and they can tell you current wait times. We have another batch of 50 coming in this week, but am not sure if they are all taken yet.

I will not be making it to NAB this year either...but will be at CINEGEAR. Mike Atkins, one of the designers of this gear will be at the REDUSER party with our gear, as well as spending some time in the Angenieux booth.

Cheers

Hi John,

Thank you for the reply on a Saturday. No apologies needed, I was kidding you. I figured the post just got lost in the shuffle. I just know others were interested in these questions as well. I look forward to the new videos and I will contact sales shortly.

Thanks again and I hope you get to enjoy your weekend.

Cheers,

Andrew

ps- Thank you for listing the weight for each piece on your website. Very helpful.

Since I got no answer on the other Sim accessories thread (thanks for your encouragement Andrew), nor did I get a reply to my e-mail sent directly to simvideo.com, I'll ask again.

Dear people at Sim, would you please make a 19mm (plus lightweight 15mm) toe piece, equivalent ot the one you already make, but with 19mm instead of the 15mm studio rod support ?

I want/need one (yesterday) !

Cheers,
Damien

PS Sorry won't be able to make it to NAB.

Yes, I got a reply from Sim, they're looking into making a 19mm Toe Piece. Hopefully that will work out, rather sonner than later, they did mention a few weeks, and hopefully there won't be a premium on the 19mm vs the 15mm like there is for the Red ET Arri bridge plates.

Thanks Sim,
Damien

I wish you the best of luck with this Damien and hope you get what you need. I know that you were very excited at just the prospect , so this is a step in the right direction for your needs. I think some others reticent to switch to 15mm gear (due to one's specific Market and those wanting to integrate their Red AKS) should increase demand.

Now, I am very interested in...

A)Red Drive Cage solution for SIM... or should I look at UGRIP for $399?

B)Handheld (ie handle bar solution(s)) for the toe piece.

C)Vendor to purchase the SWIT 8170 batts that can be seperated for travel (label each halve of the battery because only the originals work together-- Thank you Crew Pix for the heads up and possible ensuing cluster if you had not) The batts are here...http://www.swit-battery.eu/swit-neu/Frame00-Neu.html

I look forward to your NAB releases... though from a far. Those new videos will be go along way to further explain the benefits on your thoughtful, precise and integrated system for the Red.

Very excited to be a customer.

Thanks John and Mike Atkins for some very cool kit that will solve some things for me.

Cheers,

Andrew Benz

SIM apparently has a cage coming soon--actually much better than this...a solution that integrates with a hotswap mount that attaches to the plate at the end of the handle. basically, a vmount will be attached to the harddrive, which will then fit into either side of the hotswap. as far as using the hotswap goes...when a battery is low, you temporarily remove the hardrive from one mount, put a fresh battery in that mount, remove the low battery from the other mount, then slide the drive into that mount. i've heard there's a small amount of vibration damping in the cradle too.

B)Handheld (ie handle bar solution(s)) for the toe piece.

apparently some options coming very soon.

pm me on the contact. are you in canada or states?

Haha... no worries Paul, Thank you for your answers. I will pm you later on Sunday. I really appreciate it... the cage solution sounds good thank you for the heads up.

BTW, I am in the states... thank you again. I finally feel that I am coming close to getting what I am really going to need to do my work with the Red effectively in the field.

Cheers Paul and enjoy your Sunday.

Paul thank very much for the heads up on batts and the other great news. These things help. I look forward to returning the favor.

Anyone out there with SIM gear care to write a review? Crewpix, can you or Dylan help out here, though I understand you guys are busy prepping for an extensive shoot. (Good luck and be safe on that trip.)

Finner, we all know you are a "ET man"-- I am getting a lot of their gear as well, but did you get a chance to look at the SIM gear? What did you think? Are people looking at SIM as a solution for EFP and DOC for the single user to small crew?

Thanks in advance for any new information.

One important feature of the SIM Red Handle that hasn't been mentioned is that they have integrated a focus hook at the front of the handle which has been lined up with the sensor.

On the rig that was at the RU event they had mounted a dummy v-lock connection plate to a Red Drive by heavy duty velcro. Using the Switronix double v-lock battery mount they had a battery on one side and a Red Drive on the other.

I still like the idea of the Red Drive cage so we will shear off the joint and mount a dummy V-lock plate to the cage to be used with the SIM handle.

We'll have two kits. 1 configured with ET accessories, the 2nd based on the SIM Handle.

I'll let the board know customer feedback on both options.

A review of the ET vs SIM configurations would be excellent and much appreciated! I am definitely torn...and need to start buying some things next month...

Thanks!

Kevin

Great to see that this is back in discussion.

I had no clue this was a feature of the SIM handle, so if I go the SIM route I can skip the focus hook. Great to know.

This is great news and very much needed. I look forward to any news you may have to offer.

Thanks everyone,

Andrew

I just received the SIM handle and bridgeplate yesterday. extremely nice accessories. Yes, the focus hook is great, the handle is bomber strong, the built in (but removable) 15mm lightweight adapter is nice, etc. etc....

SIMs setup suits the work I'll be doing better than does ETs. Not knocking ET!! they make great stuff too! I'll be getting a 2060 dovetail from ET and their rods are awesome. i like the clutch mechanism on their evf mount very well.

But SIM has what I want without much of what I don't want. Its clean, its efficient, its flexible, it has probably the best handheld option available, the handle is comfortable, there are holes on the handle to attach wireless, shotguns, etc., the battery holder can be repositioned quickly and without tools for weight balance or access to the camera controls, the evf holder has a very wide range and will be able to work with the lcd or the evf...

When you compare a compatible setup from ET with SIM you're basically looking at the same amount of $$.

They're both great set ups, but i'm quite happy with my choice.

My impression of the two systems after playing with both is that the Sim accessories are more oriented toward a video/ENG style that is quick on the draw. The ET accessories are more modular and lower profile with an emphasis on customization and re-configuration more common with the cine-style crowd. Both systems seem very well built and either is truly "Pro" grade.

I'm about to take 2 fully Sim-modified cameras around the world for the next 45 days. I will be reporting in with notes and pictures. So far everything is working great and Sim has been very, very supportive with the minor issues we have had.
