  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Very interesting...

Of course this is not a Red substitute, but the implications for the future are considerable.

As an aside, I did a commercial shoot, sheet metal, with our Red, 1129, before I really had a chance to shake it out. Used build 15. We had no problems of any kind on the shoot, other than a few failures to boot on the first try.

We used Anton Bauer 140's and the battery life was surprising. Didn't put a clock on it, but much longer than we expected. I changed every time I noticed the battery down to the final two bars.

Even with very high expectations, I was not prepared for the quality of the images. Absolutely unbelievable; the client's senior producer declared, "it doesn't look like 35MM film; it looks like 70MM film!"

The still frames, at 108 MB, look like they could easily produce very large poster sized prints. I did not do a side by side comparison, but they looked like they could stand up against my 17 megapixel Hasselblad.

When we first brought up the images you could have heard a pin drop. Speechless awe.

Good shooting and best regards,

Hi Leo,

did you use the v mount to anton bauer adapter?

any chance to see the stills?

did you have to fight any blue noise in the shadows?

thanks,

Paul

Hey Leo, was that with your Cooke 18-100mm?

I shot most of the job with a set of Ultra Primes because I needed a little more stop. We lit the key side of the cars by bouncing three 5Ks off a studio wall painted 18% grey and top lit with a Chimera F2.

We are using the V-mount adapter until Custom delivers the Red-specific Anton Bauer battery plate.

There were no problems with noise of any persuasion, including blue.

I'll be posting a link to see a still or two as soon as I can.

Really, I'm still in shock over the image quality.

Hello Leo,

Can you tell how long the Anton bauer brick lasted, on average? Did you also use RED's brick? Any comparison between them as far as lasting time is concerned? It would be helpful.

Thanks for the report!

Exciting. And that's just build 15. Build 16 is supposed to be the image whammy.

Since we already have many Anton Bauer batteries and chargers, we chose not to purchase the Red Bricks; I have no knowledge of how the two compare in run time.

The shoot day was very long and I confess to being a bit punchy so I'm not sure of our run times, but I believe I changed batteries every two or three hours.

Good shooting and best regards,
