Wondering if RED TWO will be a RED ONE upgraded for us at fair fee, or will be another camera altogether?

Also, hope the Scarlet wont take too much of their attention away from the RED.. I loove these firmware upgrades!

Why be number TWO of you can be number ONE? ;-)

i would guess it would be a new camera, with new sensor, processors, etc. I can't imagine that happening for a number of years though.

but who knows...

Technology evolves rapidly. I don't how Red can avoid releasing a new camera in 2 or 3 years. We'll see.

Lolol

I imagine that the camera was named RED ONE partially as a joke, since it is so open to upgrades they may never build a RED TWO.

That's not to say that they will not make any other cameras that cater to different markets, price brackets etc. They didn't call SCARLET the RED TWO or RED MINI. Im sure if they needed to make an 8K 3D Lightfield camera in the future they would name it after some other shade of red...

anything major would be a sensor upgrade and all you have to do is swap it out. (if there is a bigger sensor, it's a different format, camera, and beast). if the cost of a new sensor swap is kept in the Red tradition, then Jim will be even more loved by the Red community. red one will always be red one.

Who knows... speculation is fun... but how many Red two threads have there been?

My answer is 23... what do I get if I win? I LIKE STICKERS AND T-SHIRTS...:bleh:

Cinemano, dear sir, we are very excited for you and your enthusiasm-- we have all been there... for a while now. However, many of the questions that you have asked the past few weeks could simply be answered with a search... Most are very good questions, but I promise you the "RED TWO" question will raise some ire among the group.

BTW, (my wild ass guess) RED TWO would be a clean sheet design to fulfill better ergo needs for ops, new technology focussed on a much different market (Jim could scorch the earth with an EFP/Doc focussed camera--REAL damage could be done... ask Gibby).

These are friendly words by the way... I am stoked that you are excited. Please pm me if you have a quick question, if I do not know the answer, then I know someone who does.

Take care cinemano and I wish you the best, if I can help let me know...

Andrew

As Austin would say "who does number two work for?"

I think the hardware (Red 2) will be upgraded sooner than that. I am sure Red has already encountered significant enhancements that they want to make that will require more than just firmware. I also expect them to eventually have competition in this market, A newcomer will certainly try to out do Red which will require a response. Look at how Nikon and Canon have been going at it in recent years. There will certainly be a new 4K camera within two years. Hey, ya gotta keep having something new to sell.

RED TWO will come, sooner or later, I just hope it's not announced @ NAB or IBC 2008, but who knows. RED ONE is still a beast. ...and we'll all want it. But so what?

This is technology. It develops.

Red 2, come on guys let them finish rolling out Red 1. I have only had my cameras a day, I don't wanna hear about Red 2!

This question would probably be on my mind if I wasn't so busy using Red One.

More importantly, will Red Three be legally classifiable as a citizen and be able to run for president?

well i guess i was right.. red two is epic ..

I would hope that Jim will never make a RED TWO to replace the RED ONE. I would rather he just keeps upgrading our ONE's with new insides and keep the camera body the same. That would help our investment and our work stay on top.
