hello i'm trying to find out what's the best solution for video assist on set,
and getting DV to a Macbook for revision and offlining on set

i don't want to spend all night converting files just for have the director review
I don't need the best quality for these, so i need an affordable setup.

thanks

first thing that comes to mind is a Miranda box with a firewire port.
http://www.miranda.com/product.php?i=226

Or you could get a AJA IOhd that could transcode the hd-sdi into DV

I have used both these products and am very happy with them. The AJA possibly has a lot more uses down the line.

I'm sure soon someone will have a HDMI to DV adapter.

Well one quick and painless option for dailies is to view either the Quicktime proxies (on a Mac) or just give the director a copy of the footage with RedCine for his or her preferred OS. Plus they can edit from the QT proxies in FCS2 as well if they want, again with no rendering needed.

My fervent hope is that we get PC enabled QT proxies soon, then I can do the same thing with Premiere Pro!
