  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new kid on the block

There is really no info there, plus most people here will not be impressed with super 16.

is it the size/portability that is supposed to be unique?

I dont think it will beat Scarlet :-D

Interesting.

The demo footage is pretty noisy considering the size it's being presented at. Cute little camera, that's for sure - but it didn't look like the dynamic range, nor the noise were stellar at this point. One thing RED has going for it is they get to leverage all the work on RedCode into Scarlet. Probably a big advantage.

but the fanta feel free clip looks amazing. i guess when you do a proper DI process in a footage, RED or Super16, the result looks great.

Funny form factor, but the pictures are just way too noisy. Considering this is supposed to be a 2K camera and the demo footage has been scaled down that just had too much noise for my taste. I'd rather shoot with my HVX200 and an adapter.

It's actually 16mm film. I was confused at first, thinking that they had developed a Digital Cinema camera. But, no. Just good ol' film. I guess that the "2k RAW" and "stored as individual files" are humorously referring to film stock. These have been around for a while. Weren't they used on Apocalypto for a lot of the running POV shots?

yes the ikon a-cam super 16s were used in apocalypto. the funny thing for me was that the super 16 "running shots" looked like VIDEO to me. maybe the greater DOF gave them that effect.

its just hobby
I like their attitude and design
but footage is pretty noisy

I've played with them before. They are cute little cameras, but feel pretty plasticy. The lack of a through the lens viewfinder blows though. only good for wide angle or static shots. No high speed primes on this one.

no i think it is an actual digital camera, that s16 camera was developed a while ago, out of curoisty i asked them for the price, and i was told it would be afordable, the s16 film camera is around 8/9 thousand i thinkm so in anycase will be interesting to see how much their digital cam cost

The ad said "2K RAW" so it's definately digital. Right?

The form factor reminds me of the A-minima. This wouldn't be a bad form factor Scarlet for us old-school film people if it had proper viewfinder with fairly full feature set.

Guess we'll see soon enough.

Maybe there is a digital camera coming. I just assumed that the "a-cam sp-16"
logo at the bottom of that page was the name of the camera being described above as 2k RAW. And the sp-16 is their film camera. Perhaps it's just a confusing page layout. ??? I guess those of you going to NAB will find out.

from my knowledge, like others have said, the demo they have on their site, and the model they have had out has been super16 film and not 2k (hence the noise) and price of a little over 6k for the s16, would be interested in seeing a 2k release, I think its a very very cool little camera, especially for those tight situations!

I actually have one of the A-cam's super 16mm. Its been around for a while now, bought it about 4-5 years ago. At the time, it was a good little camera to rig up for tight shots, and on remote control cars!! Was the smallest thing out there. Like mike says the lack of through the lens viewfinder is the biggest problem with it, though a couple of companies did offer a solution for this.

Fun to play around with, and the quality ain't that bad!
