I can't thank Jim and the Red team enough for the gift of this camera! Build 15 is something special.

Here is a little video I cut together from a short production I'm doing in collaboration with Jason Diamond (jedi666) of MBS Productions here in New York.

I'd love to take credit for this, but I was just picking out lenses and handing it over to skate videographer R.B Umali and professional skater Zered Bassett, from Zoo York.

Just FYI, MBS and I are building the workflow to finish this production using Crimson and ...... Avid ;)

I cant watch this videos at home ! my wife wants to have a PC !
cant waint until tomorrow !

THNX Ian !

That was cool. First shot almost made me think i was watching a John Woo movie :)

btw: GREAT job on the crimson workflow - can't wait to see what's yet to come...

RED on Skateboarding! nice.

Looks great. But seeing it shot on a fisheye lens makes it harder to distinguish it from the usual.

Was this 2K? It seems it could easily pass for a consumer high def with obvious exceptions.

Weird looks really dark and knowing how RB films seems hes not used to the cam yet at all.
Super close shoots.
But Zered kills it no matter what he is doing.

Skating always looks cool at 120fps. The main thing I didn't like was the filming of the video. The guy shooting it needs to backup. He's way to close to the guy skating. I know its tuff filming on a skateboard but I did it for years and learned early on to not be that close...not just for framing but because I didn't like my camera hit by a board or something.

I crushed the blacks a bit. I set the exposure a little lower because I wanted to preserve the sky. Not sure how happy I am with the grade, and obviously glass counts.

I'm still learning this camera too.

I know what you mean, but in this context I didn't think it was too close, other than the cameraman creating a shadow perhaps.

For a skateboard video, where you really want to see full body for technique etc. yes, but I thought this looked cool as an art piece! Love the closeups, love the detail, love the lens flares, bring it on I say.

Nice! Really like that.

That song takes me back to the movie "Talk to Her".....

And reminds me of a theory I'm working on, which is.... pop songs in a language foreign to the audience can really add feeling to a scene, without the audience being distracted by the lyric to the point they disconnect from the image.

Actually we asked RB to specifically get as close as possible. alot of this was testing and RB getting used to the camera since he's used to wielding a much much lighter DVX or HVX. this was end of day and he was so much more comfortable with the cam than the start of the day but lets face it 20lbs is 20lbs.
Regardless thanks to ian for his awesome expertise and CAM. our MBS cam is on its way across the country now to our hot little hands. ian is an amazing guy and knows a ton about RED. He neglected to mention our pulling off to the side off the road on 14th st in NYC to "sniff" out some wireless networks and grab build 15 from the ether to hit the 120fps at the next location. we outran a bus by mere seconds as the file was finishing!

We're focusing on the Crimson workflow for AVID and he will be at the MBS headquarters all week sequestered with us as we hammer out what should be a super solid workflow. Don't count Michael P and the big guys out either. NAB is gonna be good all around for everyone i think.

Thanx for niiiice footage.
Hope somebody will shoot some mesmerizing Jaws or Teahoopo surf footage soon.

In some moments it was definitely way too close - because it's always good to see landing after trick. And not only for sk8 videos. That finishing moment of complicated body and board evolutions makes it interesting and is most important. Btw I consider most of sk8, surf, snowboard videos like art pieces  These boyz and girlz with camcorders and 16mm do really awesome job.

And board can easily hit camera and crack the lens
