  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TARIC - European duty rates for RED

I guess I've just got the 17.5% VAT to pay for the UK.
 
When browsing for theses codes in french, the translation the site gives for 8525803000 is digital photographic camera. There is a section for TV/video cameras that leads me to this code 8525801990 which gives 4.9% duty.

As for the LCD and EVF, Fedex told me you can "negotiate" with customs agents. I guess if the LCD and EVF are part of the camera package, you wouldn't have to consider them as separate items, especially if they only work with this camera.

Just guessing...
 
yup, i also had to pay to fedex something close to 30% of the whole value to get my camera out of the customs. 20% is for VAT, 10% is for import from out of EU.
this is for Italy.

Are these just a personal best guess, or something you know for certain EU Customs are currently using for Red items?

I believe other people who have taken delivery of the Red's paid rather more than 0% duty on their Red Ones!

Doing a search back, many figures were thrown around before Reds were shipping to the UK. Then when people received them, I suspect they were all too busy getting to know the Red and getting work, to post the actual rates they in fact paid! The figure of 4.9% for the body seemed to be popular.

As you seem to have actually received your Red system in the UK, please enlighten us UK residents on the actual TARIC codes and duty rates you paid for say the body, EVF, and LCD. Any other codes and rates such as for the Red Drive, Lenses etc also appreciated.

It is my turn to be concern with this f.... taric database.
I am waiting for my Red 2070. I get a call from Fedex yesterday :
"do you accept 4 000 euros taxes and duty or not ?"
Me :
"Oh... seem to be a bit high, what is the detail ?"
Fedex :
"I don't know, I think you bought tee shirt"
Me :
"Yes I bought 2 Red tee shirts but it does not represent what I bought"
Fedex :
"Do you accept ?"
Me :
"Yes"

Then i went in the forum to get more informations, but what I found is not very clear :
Taric code for the One- 8525805050 is not fund in the Taric database http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/tarhome_en.htm

And Emmanuel Cambier said "The custom TARIC code for the camera is: 8525801990 instead of 8525.80.50.50 as is writen on the bill" but the only description I get for that description is "Other"
I feel it will be hard to get the money back, and it makes me very hungry to throw away 1 000 euros...

Any idea or suggestion ?

We should fix a Faq about this problem for every buyers outside the US.

Nickson is right. There shouldn't be any import duty to pay on the Red One body. EVF will be 14%.

Be careful to make sure customs treat your shipment as a 'split entry' rather than charging everything under one tariff.

When my Red arrived in the U.K. back in March I was out of the country and received a call from Fedex asking for VAT & Duty payment to have it released from customs. The figures seemed high, but because I was overseas I had no way of checking the paperwork. Anxious to get my hands on the camera as soon as possible, I paid up, after being told that I could dispute the figures at a later date.

When I returned I found that I had been over charged to the tune of several thousand pounds. (Customs had charged a blanket 12% import duty on all items in my first shipment).

I'm sure that HM Revenue & Customs are a little more used to seeing Red Cameras pass through their doors these days, but there is still a lot of confusion with the EU commodity codes and I am still disputing my case with Fedex - it's taking forever!

My expereince with customs was good, paperwork from RED was very accurate showing every TARIC Code on there invoice for every single piece.
I did setup an fedex account (free of charge) so i could recieve the package and pay for the whole tac, shipping and customs about 2 weeks later when Fedex sent the invoice.

I paid 3.800.- EUR for Fedex, which was 3.200.- EUR germans 19% VAT, 500 EUR for Fedex Shipping and Handling and 100.- EUR import duty. The Value of the whole package was 26.000 USD (was missing the EVF with a higher import fee, and the Arri Base Plate) Red Body was declared as Digital Still Camera and went trough to customs without duty.

Thanks for this thread; although i'm yet to reserve my Redone, this custom duty thing already is more of a headache to me here. Could anyone who has got their Red either in France or Switzerland (Geneva) give the exact duty they paid on reception of their camera. Mille merci.
 
So one last question from me about this issue.

I understand that there's two things to pay for us here in Europe:

1- the Taric taxes (which I understand are the taxes for getting the gear from abroad de EU)

2- the VAT (which in my case, here in Spain, it's 16%)

Am I forgetting something?

Oh! And thank to everyone sharing this taxes nightmare, it really makes me feel less alone... :help:
