So I finally got to play with a RED today. Was very exciting and cool to finally see what it looks like in person and touch it. We put on a Russian 18mm lens, and it looked very nice. We also put on an Angenieux 25-250 to see how good it would look. Surprisingly enough, it looks fairly good. It looked a little soft towards 250 (could have just be us focusing off the LCD), but wide it looked really good.

Here is a picture. Closer to the 250 on this, and probably around 8f.

Will try and post some mov's after working on a Habitat house tomorrow.

Matthew
PS. Thanks to Bryan for inviting us down to play today!

Hi Matthew,

Your softest points (assuming the front and back focus is set up right) should be around 75mm and 180mm. Have you had the lens looked at on a autocollimator?

Hi Matthew,

Is that the 'old' 25-250?

Lots of CA on her left cheek, I think.

Yes, I was noticing That. However, when I graded it in RedCine, I did a more fall/desaturated grade that the CA is not nearly as noticeable. Look at the attached picture.

Yes, it's a pre 1980's model I believe. Not an optimo and not my lens. I did try a breathing test on it, and I was surprised how little it breathed when you were racking about 3ft--it was almost not noticeable.

Yeah I know! I posted a rack-focus shot with mine and was surpirsed as well. This is one hell of a lens for the price. I absolutely love its imperfections, it gives Red such a wonderful feeling.

No problem Matthew. Good luck with the purchase.

Is J.F. having more of those adapters made? I think it's a great idea, especially for those lenses. "Art lenses" is a good idea too. I would be interested in seeing stuff graded as if it were the 40s (or 50s) *shrugs*

Yes, I believe he's having PL adapters made for every lens he owns.

I will try grading it as such.

Here's another picture from shooting that day. When you hit the right focus mark, this lens is pretty dang sharp (even in 2k!)

It's interesting... In RedAlert the greens pop like it's a bright sunny day, but in RedCine they are more muted and natural (as it was an overcast day.) I've got a funny short clip that I will try to post tomorrow if I can.
