Anyone had any experience mounting Hasseblad large format lenses to the RED using a PL mount?

Any commentary would be greatly appreciated.

Right or longer focal distances as the Sonnar 150,180 and 250mm and Tele-Tessar 350 and 500mm.

I believe that the Arri Shift And Tilt system glass was all rehoused medium-format lenses such as the Zeiss Hasselblad line.
Mr. Gross? Mr. Duclos? Am I mistaken?
Isn't the iris also the shutter on these lenses? I'm not a still photogtapher so my knowledge is thin here. If that's true, how do you plan to deal with this?
Cheers,
Harry

The iris/shutter problem is easy to overcome. A modification of the iris would be required. Locking the iris to the aperture ring and disabling the spring loaded return of the shutter function would give the user complete control.
This is the case in many SLR lenses. I believe we just did such a modification to a Nikkon 28-70mm.

The Arri Swing & Tilt lenses were made from various sources. I don't know if elements from Hasselblad made it in there, but I do recall some Canon in the mix.

How would you get a PL mount put on a Hassleblad lens? Any idea on how much it would cost?

Just know that if you put a Hass. lens on a RED camera that you are not using most of the glass. The lens is designed to cover a 58mm wide area (I think that's right...) while the RED's active sensor is about 22mm wide. And the lenses aren't the fastest T-stops in the world. But they are of outstanding optical quality.

I own a 110mm Zeis T* Planar f2 and an 80mm f2.8, both converted to cine use professionally by Rotavision in Australia (both were Hasselblad lenses). For some unknown reason, the 110mm is a bit "milky". Sharp, but looks like there is diffusion in front of it. I need to get it serviced. The 80mm is awesome with no troubles, we use it regularly as a great supplement to the Red Zoom.

So how would that affect the FOV? I believe the 80mm is similar to a 50mm on a 35mm SLR so what would the equivilent be on the Red with an 80mm hasselblad lens? i hope this makes sense

A 80mm is a 80mm, the FOV doesnt change.

Whats different about a 80mm medium format is that the projected image could cover a larger sensor if such a beast was available (Which it does like the phantom65. The FOV only changes because the sensor size changes)

Hasselblad lenses are designed to cover a 6cmx6cm negative.

One of the gurus also pointed out at some point that as you get to lenses designed for a much larger format they actually may not be as sharp as lenses designed for a smaller format.

It may actually make more sense to convert lenses designed for 35mm slrs like some of the older Contax Yashica Zeiss, Leicas, etc.

Some but not all Hasselblad/Zeiss lenses can be mounted on Nikon F and Canon EF cameras.

It mean that can be used on RED with Nikon F or Birger EF mount and with a big hope with the future IMS mount.

Have a look:

Can you guys express your opinion concerning whether or not it's worth it to go this route if one has access to not too expensive Hasselblad lenses? Will there be a degradation in image quality if we used a Hasselblad to Nikon, then a Nikon to RED adapter? Does anyone have an idea of whether or not the image quality would be better than using the high end line of the Nikon prime and zoom lenses? Thanks for your input.

i am using hasselblad lenses with b4/sony 2/3" mount with broadcast and hd cameras, and results are exellent. but as mentioned earlier you are not using whole glass, just inner part of it.

considering nikon to pl mount - you can find "direct" adapter (rarely) on the ebay hass=>pl mount. no need to use another conversion. so, maybe try that way. usually these are not THAT expensive.

all the best,

filip

Anyone know what's the best way to mount the hasselblad medium format lenses to a RED? I'm considering using a nikon mount on the hass lenses connected to the nikon mount on the RED. I've also seen some PL mounts that connect directly to the hass glass, but I don't want to lose the ability to shoot stills with the lenses. Any suggestions?

read my previous post. the adapter i am talking about is NOT GLUED on hass glass. it's just an adapter. if you need your hass glass after shooting with red, you can use it normally as before. your hass lens is NOT changed, or distroyed in any way.
