no, the minipars are 12v only.

Please contact Malcolm to see if the new cables attach directly to the battery.

They should also have DMX ready.

For now I have been plugging them in to my honda eui200 when in location but as soon as I get my REDs I will also want to use them with batteries.

Ciao,

KETCH ROSSI

So that's a no to the Brute9 then? Just minipar?

Jarred announces the news that LEDz will be lighting UP the RED booth at this year NAB event.

My self and my associates at LEDz, Founder and Ceo Karl Schultz, and Exec. Vice President Malcolm Mils with the collaboration of my company, KETCHFRAME, are absolutely trilled of this great opportunity the RED team has provided us, in showcasing our fantastic product, bound to revolutionize how the industry lights up their scenes!

Stay tuned for after NAB photos and details.

Ciao

Thanks Ketch for the information, as usual.

I'm excited about 35% off, but I want to see them before purchasing. So...
looking forward to going to the booth.
I could see adding a nice deep cycle Optima blue top battery for my kit,

Just wanted to let everyone know about the great service I've had from LEDz from Malcolm, as well as the consistently great advice from Ketch. :nerd:

I ordered two Brute9 units and the communication from Malcolm at LEDz was top notch. Always got back to me within an hour, even on weekends. They were very flexible and when there were minor issues, they dealt with them immediately and properly.

The build of the units was better than I expected. Full metal frames, solid components and overall very nice. I have yet to use them in a shoot but my early tests show they don't create multiple shadows or be affected by the multiple light sources.

Anyway, make up your own mind, but my experience has been nothing but positive. Thanks again to Ketch for all his help in this forum.

Cheers,

Jim

With all due respect, it appears to me that LEDz do not provide the benefits, or are even close to what the manufacturers are claiming them to be. In particular, they do not provide the brightness or efficiency of tungsten halogen or discharge HMI lamps.

According to Osram, 200W HMI has ~75lm/W efficacy and HLX Xenophot halogen lamps of this power output approximately 40 lm/W and cost peanuts compared to LED product.

I looked at LEDz Brute 16.

The website claims that it produces 36 fc (or 387 lux in civilised countries :bleh: ) on an area 3'x 8' = 24 ft2 (or 2.23 m2 in civilised countries).

Thus, the efficacy of the Brute 16 LEDz is about 387 lux x 2.23m2 = 862 [lm].

As they claim the power consumption 60W; this results in only 14 lm/W, which is very poor compared to any traditional lighting.

If anyone inferred from their website or marketing material that their products are comparable in brightness or efficacy of either 200W HMIs or traditional Osram Halogen lamp costing ~$5 a piece, they have been misled.

Am I missing something?

Pawel, where can I find info about Osram HMI's?

i see bulb info, but no fixtures? It doesn't seem fair to compare the prices LED-Z's products to a single light bulb.

However, if I'm missing the point and you know a place where I can buy an HMI for cheaper than a Brute 9, PLEASE PM me! :)

The fixture info would be the same as the bulb info that it contains

200W HMI lights are comparable in price (http://www.filmandvideolighting.com/dig20hmipars.html ), but considering that they put out about 17 times more light out of them, they cost less than 1/10th of equivalent LEDz.

If you want to save even more money, use HLX Xenophots at ~$200 per fixture and more than twice the amount of light of LEDz at the same power consumption.

i googled HLX Xenophots but didn't get anything. any links?

LED-Z lights - great experience

LED-Z lights - great experience

Just some user info. I bought 2 Brute 9's and 2 Mini-Pars from Malcolm back in April before a trip to the Middle East. I needed a small kit which could work on international voltage or battery if needed. I also wanted daylight balanced. They also needed to be able to be durable and no problems with poor power situations in some places (brownouts, low voltage, etc) My options were HMI - big, bulky, heavy, high power requirements, and would not like brownouts) Fluorescent - Bigger, Bulkier, and more fragile) Or LED - expensive, light, daylight, durable. I researched the LED options and ended up trying LED-Z sight unseen based on reviews here at REDUSER. In use the lights were amazing. Tiny compared to the light output. Had several brownouts during shoots and lost power, but as soon as the power returned they popped back to life. They provide good balance to indirect sunlight. No they will not currently match higher wattage HMI's, but for me they have been perfect. (I have a Brute 16 on order so it may meet me higher power needs.) Yes they were expensive, but I factor in use and electricity saved over many years, and I figure they are worth it. I also own a complete alot of ARRI tungsten lights and am considering selling them to buy more LED-z lights. (Anyone for some great condition ARRI's) Are they for everyone, I don't know. But for me they have been awesome. I have used them on Broadcast Music video, interview, and some test drama projects.

If you have any questions let me know. Just a user with no stake but good images.

cool lights has a little 150 HMI fresnel that costs $459 on special. The ballast is very small and it's pretty much flicker free for everything I've shot on my RED. I did have a problem with one ballast but Richard sent me another the day I told him about it. He's pretty cool to deal with.

I'm gonna check out these led lights though. Every light has a purpose and a discount for the red community is always much appreciated.
