HI everyone
Sorry for my spelling, i just not a native :)
I have ordered RED few days ago and i have some questions and few concerns.

1) MISTERIUM- Is this "regular" CMOS , 50 % green, 25% BLUE, 25% RED ? Or they have equalize it in some way as PANAVISION GENESIS so the all collors are captured "equal" I try to ask support for that, but looks like they avoid this topic.

2)In the technical info on the red.com is pointed that RED can record uncompressed and compressed RAW files, but in the email they have informed me that is actually not possible. Where is the catch ? Is just a marketing on the web?

3) I have read a lot about acessories quality - that they are very different then on the web shop. Is this happaning for new cameras either? Or they have changed something?

4)Is this really 4K? I mean in the pixel resolution it is, but bandwich as 25-35 mb/s is like in the 1080p in sony Ex1 , and sony is MPEG 2 camera, so i'm wondering about that codec , it looks like it is HUGE copresion...So after all we really get 4:4:4 12 bits of collor or it is another marketing catch?

5) On the webside they point in the tech spec that : " record 2540 progressive at up to 30 fps REDCODE RAW. With 4520 X 2540 pixels, Mysterium™ puts pure digital Ultra-High Def in the palm of your hand."
What does it means? It means that RED in 4k is not progressive or it actually can not record in full 4k?

I would like to admit that i started with RED with big trust. I have placed an order for almost all acessories available, i have also ordered matte box from ARII and follow focus. All stuff for more then 50 k what is big monay for me. But Day by day , as i started to do some tech calculations and read all post in this forum i start to loosing my trust on RED as so many things is "different" that they looks like on the web, and looks like real tech spec is hidden behind the marketing bla bla bla.
I'm pro guy, i do not wonna have a gaget i wonna have stable tool to work with for long period of time.
Any one knows price for Panavison Genesis? :)

Best regards

2)the uncompressed mode was dropped....maybe it will come again.
3)in the past assec. were machined, now they are cast parts, the change was a little problemtatic, but quality should increase when your assc. are there.
4)is it really 4k?
There are several things to think about....What is RAW....What happens if you translate the RAW information to a RGB Signal.
asfaik To avoid aliasing artefacts you should get around 3,2 k RGB
5)Actualy best is to shoot 4k 2:1, ( 4k 16:9 is available too)

Its the best bang for the buck out there, congrats...
Further informations about red you can read on this forum....look to the recon section, or the faq from red...

1. In regards to sensor, RED make a bayer image, make a read at :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer_filter

2. It's not marketing on the web. They listed the feature before (last few years) but the feature was already drop i believe.

4. RED Code isn't something like you think as compare to MPEG-2 tech with its interframe compression. The RED CODE is intelligently compress right from the sensor NOT AFTER like most camera (after went thru matrixing, white balance, sharpening) and so on. Therefore, white balance, ASA is only metadata and you can change it later. Thanks to Graeme with his fabulous work. This is RED strong point as compare to the other camera. The conclusion, you cant compare RED compression vs other compression just by looking at the numbers. It's orange and apple. Compress RAW file is RED RAW, but it isn't a compression like you normally find where the quality is compromise.

5. RED IS PROGRESSIVE. Heck it's a cinematic camera ! and it records 4K res ! The statement doesn't hint a little bit of can't record 4K and progressive. Read it again and again carefully. 2540 is the vertical resolution not horizontal.

And what is it that is very different as compare to what they're saying ? Apart from the RAW port of course.

Check ur PM

Red does not record 25-35mbit/s. It does at 28-36mByte/s. Remember 1 Byte is 8 bits. So there are more than 8 times higher data rates.
And you do not get 4:4:4 - you will get 4k RAW at 12 bit. You can make it in post 4:4.4 if you like...

THANKS TO U ALL for this informations. I'm still lerning about DIgital stuff.
Now i'm more confident again:))
I have asked about Misterium becouse i have read that is not as a " regular CMOS sensor", that is much better in color management so i thought may be they did something what panavision did ( PANA is also CMOS but they say that is not BAYER)

I wonna buy Carl zaiss Prime Cine lenses. Are they better then Red's?

I wonna buy Carl zaiss Prime Cine lenses. Are they better then Red's?

As Red's Prime set is still in the 'coming soon' stage there's nothing to compare. But I have my name down for these babes and look forward to testing them.

At a shade under $20k the Reds can't and won't be in the same league as Zeiss Primes (my personal preference for film shooting). But hey, Red are creating miracles every day. In any new design, the first lens is the most expensive - a potential order for a couple of thousand sets spreads the cost a lot. I’m expecting big things from the Red primes. But if you can afford Zeiss … try $20k as just the deposit for one!

One thing Zeiss don’t have is S4i technology, which (if they are like the zooms) Red primes will have. This records lens data on every frame. It might not be enabled yet but it’s there. Our digital fx guys are salivating already!

most probably, you will get RED in June.

It would be great but as serial number of my camera is 03805 i do not expect it very fast ( still 1500 are not shipped yet)

But I can be optimistic:)) And have a faith , and faith could make a mirracle , so it is posible:))

martin chuck is almost right, see here:

501-1000 begin shipping in February
1001-1500 begin shipping in March
1501-2000 begin shipping in April
2001-2700 begin shipping in May
2700-3400 begin shipping in June
3400+ (Current Orders) begin shipping in July

so it is July:)) as my number is 3805. Great. Summer. I will have a camera to shoot my hollidays :)))) ( joke)
Good to know that at July i will become a 100 % mamber of the RED familly...
Very happy...
