So this weekend a need for a new accessory really presented itself to me.

Red is now starting to get really heavy. Today Red #27 had upper rods, lower rods, EVF, LCD, 4 universal mounts, front handles and bridge, matte box, follow focus, etc. Carrying it around is getting cumbersome.

I would love an accessory that should be super easy to make: imagine the universal mount and the grip handles had a bit too much tequila and had a love child. I want a horizontal handle that bridges the 19mm rods. Put differently, imagine the universal mount but where the mounting part is instead the rubber grip of the handles!

I would love two of these, but the most use is going to be on long rods on the base, near the back. It would be SOOO handy to be able to lug this sucker around like that, and sturdy as hell.

If you end up making a few prototypes and want my continued feedback... :-)

Can you make a rough drawing of that? I am trying to imagine what you mean.

Are you basically asking for a front carrying handle to use in addition with the top handle?

I have no clue what you are trying to describe here... :glare:

Brent, CF rods won't solve my problem, this about a better way to carry it.

What I am describing is very simple. Here is a crude 10-sec badly chopped image

Seems like a very nice simple solution. Could it be made in such a way as to serve two functions? A handle and a universal type mount? It's always better to have something serve more than one purpose, like a comfortable handle shape on one side and mountable surface on the other.

I would be carefull about lifting the camera by the rods. The way the top mounts are made, and they fact that the rods are big levers, would make me very nervous. Your 30 pound camera can exert several hundred pounds of pressure on those tiny bolts depending on how far out on the rods you are grabbing.

cheers,

Nick

This actually seems like something they can do right now. The right handle going across, but with the same piece screwing into both sides. That would prob go across the 19 mm

I want this for the *bottom* rods, near the back (behind the body). That way I can put *less* strain on those upper rods. As it is, we're lifting it by the upper handle, putting all strain on the. If Red would make this accessory I am requesting, it would encourage AC's to lift it with one hand on the upper handle and one hand on a lower handle (this new one)
