  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A favor from you all... Please...

Same here Jay- I am looking forward to meeting you and all the others here.

I have certainly learned a lot from you guys, and I am looking forward to seeing you all in person.

I would like to ask a favor from everyone going to NAB that I have had the pleasure to speaking with on the forums the past year or more.

Come up to me, say "hello" and spend some time talking.

My primary reason for attending this thing is to meet all of you, however there are some challenges here, and I will need your help:

I am mostly deaf.

Jay

Jay:

I enjoyed pulling your leg on few occasions, but I never knew your situation. I am sorry if I was too harsh.

I plan on attending the show and it will be an honor to meet you.

By the way, don't let Jannard mark that focal plane for you. A 4K digital cinema camera, no focal plane marking? In a few years it will be a collectors' item, as precious as U.S. minted coin with a mistake. Seriously Jay, it can be easily marked (engraved) by any talented machine shop in your area

Jay,

I'm not sure yet whether Ill be attending NAB or not, but if I do, I'll look you up, so we can talk all things RED and the great Cineform/Adobe conspiracy :-)
And BTW, since nobody else has asked the obvious, doesn't your situation improve if you wear one of those little devices that amplify sound exponentially into your ear? My gradpa was an orchestra conductor and went basically deaf the last few years of his life, but when we got him one of such gizmos, he could hear again very well, and the device didn't look any bigger than a little secret service receiver. Coolness factor to boot...

Yes Rudi,

I do wear a hearing aid in one ear. The other ear does not have enough serviceable hearing to make a difference. They are cool things, but unlike the muscles in your ear, they cannot filter sound very well. So in a noisy room, everything comes in at the same volume...Ouch!

See you then

Jay,

That is good to know, as I tend to speak quietly. I've been trying to be better about speaking up since my father-in-law is in a very similar situation as yours. Sometimes he still has trouble hearing me, but I have to say that our conversations have improved since I am now much more aware of my speaking volume.

Feel free to call me on it if we are in a conversation. I will do my best to speak up.

Hey Jay,
If I can attend NAB this year, I wish to stay behind you all the time...
My capacity to understand the fluent english spoken is not so smart, so i need to hear voices loud and clear too. Every time I have to ask to repeat sentences... It's just annoying and I feel embarrassed.
So, at the end, we suffer for the same problem!

Hoping that you will accept an Italian mate behind your shoulder sometimes...

Elcurado,
I think the two of us together would be a funny combination!
Jay

Jay,

Just curious... Were you born deaf or did you lose your hearing as you got older? Are you an ASL user, or do you stick to lip reading and hearing aids?

I ask because I used to work at the Missouri School for the Deaf and through my time there I developed a great interest and love of Deaf Culture. I've been hoping to, at some point in my career, venture into films and video productions for the Deaf. No idea if this niche would be of interest to you, but I'd be interested in discussing it further and getting your thoughts on the subject.

I won't be at NAB, but I'm only about 90 minutes from you and a drive to Tha Lou is much cheaper than a plane ticket to Vegas.

Hear Hear...

You're to be admired for your courage and engaged for your passion!

Cheers,

- my wife & i will look for you at NAB.
