I would like to ask a favor from everyone going to NAB that I have had the pleasure of speaking with on the forums the past year or more.

Come up to me, say "hello" and spend some time talking.

My primary reason for attending this thing is to meet all of you, however there are some challenges here, and I will need your help:

I am mostly deaf.

By this I do not mean I cannot speak, or hear at all, but it does mean that if I cannot see your mouth, then I will not be able to understand what you are saying. Also, if the room is noisy, then understanding becomes even more of a challenge.

Some of you have spoken to me on the phone and from your perspective, it would seem there's no real problem, but what you don't know is that on my end, the phone I have stuck to my ear is so loud, that my neighbors across the hall must close their door to avoid hearing both sides of the conversation.

I'm rambleing.. Point is, I sometimes tend to "get quiet" in loud situations because it can be tough for people to communicate with me, and this tends to make me "crawl into a corner" rather than face the potential embarrassment of asking someone to repeat what they just said, over and over again.

I have been in situations like this before, and then they end and I realize I spent days on end at the event and spoke to.... No one.. And I try to figure out what happened!

This physcial challenge has been, without a doubt, the single largest issue in my success in this industry. However, I refuse to give up, less I lose doing something I truely love.

I plan to wear a shirt that will have my name very large on it and I hope to even post it online before NAB so you will know what to look for. But if you see me, please, tap me on the shoulder, get my attention, and take some time to say "hello".

I have so enjoyed speaking with so many of you on here, it would be a shame to miss the opportunity to do it in person. So I am asking for your assistance in doing me the honor of getting to know you all.

Sincerely

Jay

It will be an honor Jay... I'll be tapping on your shoulder.

Great thought to address this issue before hand. See you in Las Vegas.

Ever,
David

Jay, you are one of the people I have been looking forward to visiting with at NAB. It is definitely a noisy environment, but we will make the most of it.

Jay,

I appreciate your candor as I too can have a hard time hearing conversations, especially in a noisy atmosphere. So let's make sure we're facing one another while we chat, otherwise neither one of us will have a CLUE as to what the other is saying! My wife calls it MPH, male patterned hearing. But I think that is something altogether different.

I am afraid that i cant make it to NAB this year (to many productions ramping up), but i hereby officially give you a virtual tap :)

Right on, Jay... Props for puttin' yourself out there.
Although I'm not deaf, I can relate to your feelings about noisy places. More often than not, when I'm in noisy places I hear everything at the same amplitude. All I hear is everyone talking over each other.

Maybe we should ALL hook ourselves up with a shirt. Something recognizable. We could all agree on a design and upload it to some place like Cafepress or T-shirt Takeaway...

Just a thought:)
Looking forward to meeting you.

Hi Jay,

I enjoy your contributions here very much; hope I run into you at NAB!

Good shooting!

Jay!

You are a real fighter and you have a lot of heart. I am touched and inspired by your courage.

Dog Day.

Looking forward to meeting up Jay.. It's going to be a fun time this year & it will be nice to put a face to a name - see ya then

Thanks for all the kind words... Wow...

Now I need to come up with a cool T-shirt.

Perhaps I should airbrush one on! No... No one would come up to me then!

:)

Jay

will do Jay,

But If we get into it about macs and pc's.....watch out!!

just kidding, looking forward to talking.

Don't wary Jay, Italians are well known to be loud ... very loud ... and to never Shut Up!:)

Is going to be great screaming in your ears Jay, see you in Vegas!

Ciao

Yes, they're very loud. They beat even the Bulgarians in terms of Loudness. Something I considered impossible. :)

Must've put the "Loudness' knob all the way up.

Hey Jay,

I always wondered how a young guy like yourself could be so outspoken in a such a professional crowd like this. Now I know. Typing in a forum is such a great equalizer for someone with your challenges. As someone who grew up with a severe studder, not being able to talk well until after high school when I was "cured", I can appreciate your courage to overcome your challenge and succeed in spite of it.

Not sure if I'm going to make NAB, but If I do, I'll make it a point to find you.

Aloha,

Keith
