  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: BETA FIRMWARE - BUILD 15 (v2.1.7)

Is there a way to enable frame lines and/or mag/take numbers on the HDSDI prev like on Build 14? I'm on set right now and it'd sure be useful. The director sees things that are out of frame (such as shiny boards) and rightly getting concerned, we reassure him it's out of frame. Frame guides would be preferable. Am I missing the setting or was it really removed?

I'm running the latest firmware and both frame guides and take numbers are visible through HD-SDI. Perhaps there's a toggle somewhere? They were enabled by default after upgrading.

Shawn, are you running RED-EVF and RED-LCD and HD-SDI all at the same time? If so, the Preview HD-SDI & HDMI outputs won't have time code, clip name, frame lines or surround view markers on it. Remove either RED-EVF or RED-LCD and they will.

Hi Stuart! Errors over here:

Hi Stuart! Errors over here:

hello,

had an intensive test phase today:

- codec error in 4k 16:9 @ RC36 to reddrive
>>> this occures as soon there are high freq. areas in the picture

- shutter doesn't change in Varispeed unless changing
speed back and forth... (very anoying at 120fps)

- LCD flickering in the lower 3rd

- screw which holds joystick fellout (in the forest)
so no more menu navigation...

Is this temporary I assume?

Still LCD flickering after black calibration, restart and unplugging of LCD. Comes and goes, don't know how or why.

Impossible to set lower shutter speeds than 1/50 at 25 fps. The LCD will report lower but the exposure doesn't change. In varispeed it works though.

Is there any way of making the turning of the wheel more responsive? You can only turn the wheel slowly otherwise the numbers don't catch up - if they even do.

Can we please get an alternative method of navigating the menu system bypassing the "hell"stick as that joystick is the worst design ever.

Please, please could you have control of the menu via the playback controls as they don't seem likely to break or fall off :-)

Yes please more responsiveness.... Along with making the LCD full screen more responsive as well.

I think it is silly to have to crank that thing around a zillion times to get the frame rate up above 100, etc. - makes me wonder about the life cycles of that piece (the joystick/wheel).

I think it would smarter on Varispeed to have the joystick set the LAST DIGIT (0-9) separate from FIRST DIGIT(S) 0-12 - so to get to 120 you set first digits to 12 - TAB - set last digit to zero - done.

Having an alternative way to navigate makes sense in case of joystick disaster. Perhaps you could hold 2 playback buttons in for 3 seconds to turn on playback control navigation. Exit could get you out.

Either that or allow a standard PC USB trackball, mouse or keyboard to be plugged in a run the whole thing.

Still get the flickering..

Yesterday I was shooting 2k 2:1 RC28 120fps to the Red Raid and I was getting dropouts galore.. Camera was stationary.. Also, tried 113 fps on the CF card and dropouts as well..

How about some sort of USB rotary encoder with one button? Like those cheap computer scroll wheels made by Kensington et al? They're cheap and readily available.
I agree that the joystick seems like it's destined to fail at some point. I also agree with Mark P that the act of turning it up to 120 fps is an exercise in frustration. In computer-land, some "soft" buttons like this one have an automatic feature where fast input (scrolling the wheel quickly) produces a faster (though rougher) response and slower input produces a slower, finer response.
Cheers,
Harry

For a "running-gun" shoot w/small crew, etc. the control panel set-up is good, I do wonder about life expectancy of the joystick.

For a big shoot (like a feature, national commercial, etc. . .) I wish there was an alternate control panel that could be mounted on an arm over on the "dumb side" so a DIT could get at the controls while letting the DP/Operator still have their spot behind the camera and continue lighting/blocking, etc. . .

Perhaps even the ability to run this second control panel over from "Video Village". As much as I don't want any more cables coming off of the camera!

This would also give the alternate navigation method in case your joystick falls off like in one of the previous posts.

That's a super idea! A USB control panel with a good length of extendable cable.

Understood. Its being worked on.

I know its been talked about a few times but... When will the 48v for audio work correctly? Should we just purchase a pre-amp, or is it something you guys are working on?

The +48V phantom power is enabled in Build 15. Make sure you have the integrated mini-XLR to XLR adaptor cable to use this feature. See README file for more info....
