Below here is my "bulky hand-drawn artistic" and technically non-perfect sketch about upcoming

P+S technik universal mount IMS (Interchangeable Mount System)

that is going to be installed on my RED during the next two weeks.

The Universal Mount can work with:

PL, Panavision, Nikon, Canon, Leica R & M, Zeiss-Contax, B4 ... adapters.

"The P+S Technik Interchangeable Mount System consists of

an intermediate positive lock mount on camera side and various lens mount adapters".

NO NEED TO SWAP A MOUNT, INSTEAD OF SWAPPING A MOUNT YOU CAN SWAP MANY ADAPTERS!

EASY LIVING WITH YOUR RED!!!

For my point of view this IMS Universal mount and Crimson Workflow™

are both the next step in RED Revolution that could really democratized a movie making.

There are already about 3000+ RED orders but not all of them have possibility to daily have PL sets of primes or zooms.

SOLUTION:

Get IMS, experiment and shoot on whatever you want lenses DAILY!

Also not all of us RED owners can get expensive Scratch sysetm or future similar(s) to confirm in 4K.

SOLUTION:

Get Crimson Workflow™ and feel comfortable in any creative situation to confirm in 4K or 2K without chance to spent a fortune.

THIS GOING TO BE THE MOST VERSATILE MOVIE CAMERA SYSTEM E V E R ! ! !

OR THIS SHOULD SOON BECOME AN INDUSTRY STANDARD CAMERA SYSTEM FOR THE MOVIE MAKING!

It will be interesting to see how P&S deal with this. It will obviously need the whole front end of the red to be modified. Maybe the front casting can be replaced with a new front so it doesn't permanently alter the camera.

I wanna see pictures.

Cheers,

Nick

Knowing P&S this will probably be a $10,000 kit. What's a reasonable price for something like this when simple mounts for RED will be $500 per mount?

this will be interesting
test it for the indies sanjin

This system is not only for indies.

It's also for a big studios because with this configured RED system

you don't need to chage a camera to get 35mm, Super 35mm,

Anamorphic 4K, 3K, 2k 2:1 or even HD 1920x1080.

That can be made with one single camera.

All about is that you have to set different projects in your RED camera

using more separate media units (CF cards or RED drives).

The prices were announced already on this forum.

Just calculate properly!

"23489 Camera mount (without shims) EUR 420,00
18431 PL-Mount EUR 205,00
18384 Panavision Mount EUR 371,00
20506 BNC-R Mount EUR 371,00
18381 Nikon Mount EUR 236,00
18382 Canon EF Mount EUR 236,00
22646 Canon FD Mount EUR 290,00
18383 Zeiss Contax Mount EUR 236,00
18380 Leica R Mount EUR 256,00
22600 B4 Mount EUR 1.019,00"

Also P+S Technik add Nikon Enhanced Professional mount that sound pretty interesting.

The prices remain for 2008 more or less in this range.

So not about US$10,000.00 that is a pure wrong calculation and desinformation.

I was asking since months if the P&s system could be installed on the red....
thanks for info
Let us know how it performs and if the installation is reversible to the original Red mount for whatever reason.

Thanks again

Around $3,800

Not bad
Jay

Jay,

recently I dropped RED Nikon F mount.

Also I'm still not going to drop Birger EF mount.

Looking forward that IMS could be easy swappable with shimming by user(s) and without a big deal.

More info about all that IMS topic to come in a week or two here on the forum.

That's good news! I think if they make it so a user can install it themselves then it'll really sell. If you have to send it to them I think a lot people will skip it.

Combine this with some gears and ViewFactor's new follow focus and you've got an incredibly flexible solution.

Joelnet,

I can understand you very well,

but FFD adjusting and shimming is the most difficult part of every camera mount system.

Also I do have very good experience with RedRock Micro adapter shimming with my Sony FX1 camcorder.

It's about millimicrons...but who knows maybe could be technically solved like with an adjusting back focus,

also with a help of specific collimation gear, or etc...

RED Camera Body US$ 17,500.00

IMS with 3 extra mounts about US$1,500.00

Crimson Workflow™ US$189.99

The 4K affordable movie making future is now.

Did Panavision give you permission to use their mount?

Stephen,

Funny that... can't see them being that keen. I would love to see their expression if you walked into Greenford and asked for some Primo's for your Red camera! :waaa:

Did Panavision give you permission to use their mount?

No, I'm not making the mounts so in the case with that I'm not involved in a legal practice of law.

If I would have Panavision lens that should obviously come from Panavision and with the permission to use a lens.

All about that you should ask P+S TECHNIK for the technical permission.

Also I could be described as a sort of RED experimentalist.

Panavision mount patented? hasn't patent expired?

Is the Panavision mount patented? hasn't patent expired?

Unless it is patented and the patent hasn't expired (17 or 20 years?) they have no say in whether you use, or make, or sell that mount.

They may be able to refuse to rent you lenses (although there may be some restraint of trade issues there).

Sanjin, great that you do the experiments.
Have you swapped the red mount for the UNI-Mount already?
That certainly requires a machine-shop-visit, doesnt it?
