REDs 1520, 1521, & 1522 For Sale

Hello Ketch and Abu and thanks for your support. It helps especially since I've been getting absolutely ripped over at Cinematography.com.

I've evidently "disgusted" and "offended" people from all over the world. I even generated wishes that my endevours go "tits up" from a guy in England.
You should check it out -- it's under the Cine Equipment Classifieds section.

The good news is I'm receiving offers.

Thanks again fellas!

Hi Tim,

I fill sorry for you that you have to sale all you cameras, and I wouldn't care much of any negative responses, if I wore you, this is in deed a beautiful world that we leave in, but not all people are beautiful inside.

Good luck again with your sale, and hopefully soon you will have a possibility to get your RED's after all.

Ciao

I think that's exactly how it has to go down. Wired and then re-wired. I'm not sure either, but that's the way it is. Although on the financing through leasing thing, I'm not sure how it happens.
I imagine in general that this way of doing things as far as reservations changing hands keeps things logistically clearer for Red. One reservation one name kinda thing.

I agree with the shipping reshipping bit. They have their reasons. When you're dealing with thousands of cameras, I'm sure that you want to only have one pipeline for warranty stuff, one pipeline for sales, etc. etc. I'm sure to Red it's the least complicated, although seemingly to us more difficult, way of doing things at this point.
I just posted to mentioned that stuff so that you're not caught unawares of how Red wants it to happen.
Cheers and good luck.

Is the selling of reservations unprecedented with RED? I guess it would make sense for RED to at least discourage the practice but it certainly sounds like Tim has been sincere and invested his hopes in RED to deliver 1080p.

Tim,
I hope you make enough of a premium to offset some of the additional cost for those hpx3000(s)

Best of luck mate

I've received some valuable information from a RED seller who sold his camera before taking possession of it:

1. RED will ship the camera directly to the new buyer, whether the new buyer is located in the United States or abroad.

2. If the new buyer wants the 90 day warranty, he must then ship the camera back to RED and pay the $500 recertification fee. (I was hoping RED would simply accept the $500 fee without the exercise of shipping the camera back if it was on a brand new unopened camera, but that's not the case).

In my situation, I'm looking for the buyer(s) to pay me my $1,750 deposit, and then they'd be able to get their cameras from RED for $15,750 (the retail price less the deposit) plus the price of their desired accessories at RED's retail prices. I'll be selling to the person, of course, offering me the highest premium. Our deal wouldn't be official until I received my $1,750 deposit plus premium.

Although I've been receiving offers, nothing is yet firm. If it doesn't come together in the next few days, I'll put them on ebay -- I'm getting the impression that generates the most money anyway.

Thanks for the posts here and PM's of advice and offers I've received so far!

Tim

Tim, while my intention is in deed that of helping you sale, and reason for which I linked this post to my buyers, to which I could not longer sale two of my cameras, I like to point out that, I did lost the opportunity to make a previous deal with an other REDUSER overseas, do to RED not shipping the camera directly to the new owner.

Things might have change in the past weeks, (and things at RED do change ) and then all is good otherwise make sure to have the correct info directly from your sale Representative at RED.

Hello Ketch and thanks. Here's a quote from a person who sent me a PM who sold his camera to a buyer in Australia:

"Just another FYI. Red will send the camera to an alternative address. I had Red send everything to my buyers in Australia."

So I've received some conflicting information. I'll get with RED on Monday to clarify.

Thanks for the heads up Ketch.

HUGE BIG MISTAKE by RED

There is one running at ebay now. It is stated to be #1023.
Here is the link:

It will be interesting to see for how much it will go as it looks like prices of Red are going to be dropped since to my opinion the Red company is making a huge mistake by flooding the market.
HUGE BIG MISTAKE!!!!

I have a feeling current reservation holders would disagree with you.

At any way it turns out, there are still many ways to make a deal, so again Good luck with your sales.

Dude, the faster you get the jerks at c.com out of your mind, the better off you will be... Believe it

I always (or most of the times) understand people's frustrations out of personal experiences.

On the other hand, when talking about Cinematography.com I have to say that I found some resistance as well when I found out about RED and decided to drop the purchase of The Viper Filmstream. There I come first to know David Mullen, not only a greatly documented and experienced DP but a member of ASC, also I had the pleasure to meet him at LART, I found him to be a very nice fellow.

So I wouldn't categorize an entire community of users based on the few, as we know well we have few of them here as well (I could be one of them).

Just my three cents, in the hope of keeping the peace.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for you kind & informed words.

Stephen

Hello Stephen. I generally enjoy Cinematography.com and really appreciate the information and advice I've received from that forum -- including from you. I even support them in a small way financially.

There really was no explanation for the gang attack I received there, though, when I posted about selling my soon to be delivered REDs in the Cine Equipment Classified section.

I'd really love to figure out what I did to wear out my welcome there.

Hey Tim. I'm the guy who pointed you this direction over the F900's and F23s in the first place. I'm glad the HPX came out it will serve you will at a price point that is NOT sony.

If I had the funds, I'd be there in a second. Good luck! some day, I'll get funding for a movie that will utilize your studio and it's awesome real-time greenscreen shooting!

Hello TK. Good to hear from you over here.

We're putting the finishing touches on our building and equipment is starting to trickle in. We hope to be fully running in 4 to 8 weeks.

The next time you're in Florida after we open, you should come over on a Monday night. Monday evenings we'll be opening up the studio for "Moviemaker Mondays", when outside crew is invited in to play with our equipment. We'll be bringing in actors and actually producing a short or a scene from a movie right on the spot. While refreshments are served, we watch what we just produced. Should be fun -- you could be that night's guest director!

I'm looking to receive the amount of my deposit ($1,750 per camera which will be credited towards your camera purchase) plus a premium.

Please let me know what premium you're offering by e-mailing Tim(at)SoutheasternStudios.com.

Thanks!

If you're expecting a premium, wouldn't it only be fair of you to hold the original warranty for the buyers? When I was in this market, that was the deal I was looking for and saw with almost every seller. Without this, AND expecting the buyer to drop an additional $500 PLUS YOUR markup is kind of lame. Best of luck to your sales -

Hope those out there looking to bypass the waiting period understand your deal completely.

I'm flexible on this and open to suggestions as to how it will best work for the buyer.

Thanks for the input.

Tim

Tim, kowboy is right. The money you may (most probably may not) make from selling the reservation is not worth the troubles associated with selling your reservation.
My advice is simply to get your deposit back.

BTW, your prices are a bit on the high side, otherwise I would have used your studio. But, it is a good concept.
HPX3000 is the best choice for your work.
Good Luck with your studio.

Hello ChuckT. I don't think Kowboy said that. At any rate, the offers I've received so far already make it worth my while.

About my soon to open studio, we haven't set our prices yet.

Edit: I remember who you are now -- we can make it work for almost any budget -- just let me know

i'm looking to buy now if anyone has a camera for sale, cash
