prepping for a shoot..latest build installed...feeding hdsdi to aja downconverter box for SD RGB preview on-set...no signal...ideas?

tried both hd-sdi ports and preview port...nothing...

OK, so as you may or may not know, the AJA box is finicky. It doesn't like being powered without a signal, and the red takes forever to boot. Try running the hd SDI in to an HD monitor to make sure you have a signal there. If you do, un plug and replug the AJA power cable after the camera is fully booted.

May not be your problem but I had to do this dance when I used my AJA.

dont have a hdsdi monitor..but have plugged and unplugged the aja..no sync light on the back...it is feeding a grey signal to the RGB SD sony monitor as it always does..I am sure it's working fine..has always worked fine...

what output on the camera should I use?

check what freq. the cameras output is set to - you may be set to PAL

I don't have a camera in hand yet, only played with one for a day. If I recall correctly it was the preview out, but I don't recall if that was the menu setting or the label on the mini thingy BNC.

I have the AJA HD10MD3.

- Any of the RED BNC outputs works. They are all active.
- Both the 50hz and 59.98 rates work's on my PAL display. The display shifts automatically between 576i and 480i.
- Be sure that your RED's System>monitor>preview is set to "Video (720p)"

"video" is set....still no signal...argg...so for usa it should be 59hz on output right? and that is under the HD output settings correct?

same AJA you have Anders

check the dip switches on the aja box, make sure switch 2 is on rgb and not YbrPr. also come out of the composite port and not the SD port on the sd side and see if that works. also if you are using a pTap to aja, make sure you have the pTap plugged incorrectly, it is very common to put it on upside down.

double check that the pvw port is the "hot" port if you are in anything other than build 15.

good luck.

also, the jumper pins may be configured incorrectly...

it should help.

finally, we have witnessed bad power cables from rental houses, so if they gave you two, try the other one.

i know this box, when configured correctly, works perfectly. we have used it at least 50 times since september delivery.

wow..ran a digital volt meter on this little mini bnc to full sized bnc cable that came with red and that I have NEVER used before now...no current flows...it's bad...took it apart fixed it sorta..now everything works...this is crappy...been up till now trying to figure out WHY on earth things did not work....

this cable is shit. bad idea. bad design. bad manufacture.

oh well...works now..

The ET breakout box is fantastic. Totally worth getting. It's a shame RED didn't include full-size BNCs, but they had their reasons, and I'm sure that somepeople will find situations where not having the BNCs is helpful (tight mounting situations?)
