  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Whazzup with the fabled 50-150mm?

Can you confirm that? I don't know of anyone that's rec'd one and I know of no tests with it. I'm writing a book and I'd hate to leave this chapter out.

It is shipping in limited quantities by order of serial number

haven't got mine yet.

Don't know how nice it is optically, but i've heard from an owner that mechanically it's a serious improvement on the 18-50mm.

Is the 50-150 same kind of build as the 18-50, or more like the 18-85?

Gunleik

How can you compare a lens to one that hasn't been release yet?

Cheers,
Damien

PS I don't consider the two lenses Jim and Jarred are testing as a release, however I do have one on order and hope it's as great as it seems!

I know its a big deal to make the lenses. I really have to hand it to Jim that he's able to meet the price point on them. Everyone talks highly of the glass and certainly that is a critical element, but the engineering and the labor on something that precise has got to be astronomical. I would guess that with the limited quantity that's trickling out that the lenses are having problems passing factory QC and Jim's rejecting them. That actually bodes well for those of us waiting for them, as I know Jim's standards are high. I hope they overcome this issue soon.

Hey Redrhoads,

Can you elaborate on what specifically you mean here? I'm very impressed by this lens but I haven't used one. I know that of all the mechanical things humans can make, zoom lenses can be up there next to automatic transmission, color copier and jet engine.

Sick how?

Any info on breathing, holding focus through zoom range, mechanics?

There was a little breathing. We were doing a series of lock offs where the person moved but the frame stayed the same and we couldn't adjust focus because of the breathing.

We were using it more cine style, we were not zooming through any shots so i couldn't speak to that.

As for mechanics, the 18-50 lens moves external as it zooms like a still lens but the 50-150 is all internal.

Over all I love the lens = Sick! :gun:
