  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some 120 fps footage - and some 480 fps from it

Hey all -

I've posted some 120fps footage here:

http://provideocoalition.com/index....one_now_shoots_2k_at_120_fps_sample_included/

and it includes running a shot through After Effects' pixel vector stuff to retime it to 480fps. Decent. Not great, but decent quality results. Don't miss the link at the bottom with the 1000 pixel wide version. More doodling to get better results, and those just happened to be frames I'd already DPX'd out, so wasn't necessarily best footage to test with.

120 fps is FUN!

Go play!

Mike,

I just have to find out difference between FCP Speed 25% (with frame blending) and your AE pixel vector suggestion.

Mike,

I just have to find out difference between FCP Speed 25% (with frame blending) and your AE pixel vector suggestion.

FCP's speed changer uses frame blending whereas it sounds like AE is generating motion vectors for objects the frame for a much smarter interpolation.

I'm going to try that same thing tomorrow against a 435 at 150 and then slo both the RED and 435 down more in the Avid Optical Flow program or whatever it is called.

BTW smaller shutter angles help the software eliminate the slurry images. We first tested it on HVX going from 60 to 300fps. 1/2000 if you can.

Also limit your foreground between the moving objects and the camera.

That is the same technology that After Effects uses in its pixel motion interpolation. They licensed it from The Foundry.

Thanks Stu, I didn't notice this...
I will look to the retiming tools in AE much better now.

Mike, I've been waiting for somebody to try this.. nice work !!

Looks really good .. I wonder if with a faster shutter to eliminate most motion blur if it wouldn't look nigh on perfect..

I also wonder how the foundry's retiming code (the foundry codes some of the best plugins in the world) stacks up to twixtor ?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
