i have not followed this controversy too closely, so i'm going to put this in highly technical terms--mine is mostly sexy, just one crappy.
all of my received parts seem to be of the nice shiny black variety except for my RED drive, which is that gray, powdery finish and does seem not quite as nice. but i'm ok with that. everything on the body itself is consistent.
at the time of my order, they were back-ordered on several items (dovetails, baseplates, and more recently, top mounts--i received one this morning and am waiting on the second, which should be sent out next Monday...), so i believe that they are correcting the problems with the finish.
but i also believe (and this part is just my speculation, not fact...) that it is slowing down the whole ordering/shipping process a bit--hence, my advice to have your homework done on your end, it will speed it up as much as it can be sped up....but be prepared for possible wait times or delays on some parts.
but once you're in the queue, you can see that this will probably remain a work-in-progress at least until all of the early rez holders are shipped--there's a lot of collating of different orders and accounts that has to happen. once they are through this stage of development, i have no doubt things will progress much more quickly and smoothly.
