  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red #303 for sale, 5-Day auction

Tim,

Just curious, are you unable to return the camera? You just got it correct? It seems like a lot of potential headaches if you have to do the service transactions on a camera you won't own. Hopefully all works out.

"If something needs to be sent in and repaired, it would technically be done under my name, I will even make phone calls, track packages, pay bills (which would be reimbursed) or whatever I have to do to handle the issue as if the camera were still my own. The only difference is that the shipping address for the return of the unit would be the true owner's at location x."

all that is great BUT you're missing the point ... you are selling the camera on ebay ... Red can't miss this thread and see that #303 was sold on ebay not leased /rented with option to BUY at end of lease/rental ... and now you clearly point out in your post you'll send it in under your name for the true owner ( buyer on ebay ) .... just pointing out a few issues with sale - wording etc ... then perhaps Red doesn't care about the issues i'm pointing out ???

To my knowledge they don't care, as long as there is no additional hassle on their end. I have talked to a couple people who sold their units after checking with Red to see that the setup in question would be ok, and they said it was. I should probably get some kind of formal confirmation from them on this though, I see your point. I'll get on it.

hummmm, because i just asked Red last week and was told on a sale
new owner would have to send in body ( and pay) for evauation for 90 day warranty.

i believe others have done leased to own contracts/sales ...
you may want to check in with Red for official what is what on warranty.

I sold my cam and went with the rent-to-own in order to give the buyer the full year warranty.

I spoke with Red extensively about it, and they're fine with giving my 2nd hand owners warranty coverage if all warranty claims come through me.

I haven't read bbooze's post on Ebay, but if he writes somewhere that he'll give his buyer the option to lease to own, then they legally have that option. It's up to the winning bidder to decide if he wants "complete" ownership immediately.

BTW In my contract, we wrote in an "option to buy" after 1 year for 1 dollar. There is still an obligation from my buyer, which means that they legally don't have ownership until that dollar is paid. This keeps the warranty in tact, and they will not have any problems taking ownership after a year.

Anyway, I've got Red #3 thousand four hundred and something coming someday.
