I am not 100% sure but I am 99.9% sure. The old timers here may remember that 120 fps was promised feature.

With 720.

RED has far surpased this by getting us 120fps at 2k.

This is a major improvement over promised features.

Well done team.

I'm just saying....

I was just thinking that last night when I was telling a friend about it. I don't think 120FPS was ever promised at 2K. So... once again RED is proving to be a good gamble. Hell - they're still selling for a $10K premium on eBay. Yeah - credit where credit is due.

I'll second that Jay

yeah - these are the awesome things which havent been announced at all when we ordered back in 2006: 2K@120P and 4K@onboard.

I still wouldn't mind 720 @ 300fps! I'm sure this is possible.

If we take the current 4k bandwidths and extrapolate you get the following, not quite 300fps but encouraging. Given that the most recent speedup (2k x 120fps) came from reducing the frame setup times rather than storage bandwidth, you will probably not be able to hit the maximums.

1440x720: 242fps max, 200fps more reasonably
1280x720: 273fps max, 240fps more reasonably

Oh no...here we go...
Somebodies going to want a Pixelvision super-Phantom next.

Agreed. Well done Red team.

Key word for this 60 fps camera is "burst".

Jim

You trying to tell us - all factors being equal - the key word for Scarlet is "sustained." :)

I want my two freaking cameras!!!!!! NOW!

Ok...... now I feel better

Where did you get this 10K premium figure? Is this the asking price or purchased price? I heard people had trouble offloading their REDs at cost.

Some guy just sold one on eBay within the past week for $32k and it was minimally outfitted. With his $2500 accessory credit he probably made close to $10k. (actually is was US $32,100.00 - item 320226173906)

Maybe crappy salespeople have trouble offloading their RED to their broke film student friends for cost... maybe people are having trouble selling a camera they don't have in their possession yet.

There's a RED on eBay now... see what it goes for in 3 days and you'll get a feeling for how tough it is to unload a RED. No doubt there will be a premium. Once RED has its workflow kinks worked out it'll be even easier to sell a RED.

Yeah that package was worth about $20,300 including the 2,500 credit so the guy made almost 12k. This current ebay auction I think is worth something like $18,200 w/ the credit...it'll probably go for 28 to 30k.

Let's face it, once RED shortens the lead time to 1 wk. 2nd hand cameras won't fetch face value let alone a premium.

It probably helped boost the price that all the accessories appear to be the machined ones with black finish.

Yep. Specs released long ago once said we would get 1080p 4:4:4 (REDCODE RGB) gathered from the 4K sensor area at up to 60fps. And 720p 4:4:4 (REDCODE RGB) at up to 120fps derived from the 2K sensor area.

Now we actually have 2K REDCODE RAW up to 120fps! ROCK ON!

I'm hoping that 4K modes in excess of 30fps will be possible. Now that it seems the limiting factor is becoming the storage media, I'm anxious to see what the RED FLASH DRIVE may do for us.

I still wouldn't mind 720 @ 300fps! I'm sure this is possible.

This one isn't possible... Or at least shouldn't be based on the sensor specs we have been told. The sensor's maximum clock is 120Hz and only from a 2K windowed area or smaller. I don't think we can get faster than 120Hz by shrinking the window down, but maybe. And I doubt we'd get all the way to 300fps...
