  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beta RED ONE camera firmware Build 15 is released on www.red.com/support.

TWO IMPORTANT NOTES:

1) BLACK CALIBRATION - Please Do a Black calibration after installing build 15.

2) PHANTOM POWER - You should only use the phantom power if you have received the new upgraded mini-xlr to full size xlr cable.. if you still have the old mini-to-mini cable plus separate mini xlr to full size xlr adapter, dont use phantom power until you get the replacement from us. (contact support to make arrangements)

* Simultaneous RED-EVF, RED-LCD and HD-SDI/HDMI outputs
* Shutter speed reporting in Degrees or 1/xx Sec format
* Increased frame rate for 2K recording modes
* Anamorphic recording modes
* Camera LOOK file export/import
* Addition of root directory (.RDM) to digital media
* Streamlined media formatting and Black Shading algorithms
* False Color Focus meter

many useful things, especially all outputs on and higher framerates are great enhancements!

I would like to know if the 15 /16 firmwares also the ones which will have the redcode version which will be allowed to be supported by 3hrd party postproduction companies of will we have to wait until 17?

* Clip Name and starting Timecode in status display on playback.

* Re-activation of +48V Phantom Power.

* Improved RED-DRIVE data synchronization in playback

* Use meter reports in hours rather than minutes.

* Encryption of camera LOOK and LOG files.

* Updated RED-EVF color calibration

* Change of fan default mode to AUTO.

* Change of Headphone level default to -6dB.

* Fan quiet on camera power cycle

* Removal of User Guides A B C D

* Varispeed settings remembered across power cycle

* Adjusted QuickTime file so audio displays as discreet channels

* Adjusted GUI to display D.C instead of A.C with 12V power sources.

* Fixed Force Reel locks up camera UI bug.

* Fixed image separation when in timelapse record bug.


Known firmware restrictions for Build 15, RED ONE v2.1.2

* Rounding error in reported shutter speed in SYNCRO and RELATIVE modes

* GUI not available on HD PREVIEW outputs if LCD and EVF active.

* Exposure below 1/24th sec not available in TIMELAPSE menu.

* Timecode output not enabled on LEMO 5 pin connector.

* Audio and Timecode not present in HD-SDI outputs.

* End user may not edit the filename of a LOOK file.

* May not exchange LOOK files with REDALERT or REDCINE

* Audio playback in RED-ALERT and RED-CINE is not enabled.

* 4K 16:9 recording not yet supported by RED ALERT or by QuickTime Player.

* 4K _F, _H, _M and _P QuickTimes may crash QuickTime Player.

* Dual Link HD-SDI outputs replicate HD PREVIEW or PLAYBACK HD-SDI signal.

* False Color Focus indicator (red edge highlight over monochrome) - and I'm sitting here waiting for a SLR Mount. Barry go test this. Gotta love these guys at RED.

yeah, and the main advantage of using other lcds instead of red ones (hdsdi through) is also gone.

And NAB being so close, what redcode version is the 15/16? is this release the longawaited "redcode will be openend to 3hrd parties" version?

Thanks Elcurado.. we should probably say it a few more times so everyone sees it... as its important.
 
NOTE: Even if upgrading from Build 12, 13 or 14, a BLACK SHADING calibration should be performed. This parameter is located in SYSTEM / MAINTENANCE. Ensure that the lens cap is in place and a formatted CF card is installed before starting a BLACK SHADING operation. More detailed instructions are contained in the System Menus section of the Operations Guide included in the download.

Whoa! Use meter? When did this get added?
 
113 fps at 2k 2:1 on CF! And of course 120 on RED drive.

Does this mean that the look file opens in RED ALERT or REDCINE and then that file can not be altered OR that you can not make it in RED ALERT and send it to REDCINE?
