Charming picture from an oldtimer lens.

Also a nice bar drinks collection and pipe.

very nice Shawn .i have the same lens it is very huge and beautifull .but i need to adjust it PL mount for back focus .i feel your need adjusting too
do you have a picture of it

Bassam, I was hand pulling focus using the Red LCD as rough approximation, so I don't think it necessarily needs backfocus change. The subtle softness is probably inherent in the older glass

Shawn thanks for posting. I was wondering when you were going to get that lens. What are your thoughts on it overall? I personally like the look of that footage that both you and CJ have posted that was shot with this lens. Looking forward to any other test you may shoot with this....

hey shawn,
where and how much did you pick up the lens? Any recomendation?

Off eBay, $877. Any of the shops that sell it charge around $1500 plus a PL mount conversion fee.

Man, I really hope you like that lens, otherwise I'm really going to feel bad about posting that footage back in October.

Lol, I already do like it. Is it a Red Zoom? Of course not. But it has a look and feel all its own. For the right project this could be awesome. The lens has character that just jives with me.

Thanks Omar! I'm going to wait and have to home-bake some solution to mounting it properly. Unsupported I wouldn't take it out and about. Here's a look at it.

That's the lens we used to do our Nooma tests. Love it. Fantastic lens. I just need to find some focus gear rings for it.

How would that work? The portion of the lens that rotates with focus moves outwards while you do it, unless you were only doing minor focus pulls, the barrel would rotate out from over the FF gear

Yea, the 25-250 requires a high support and I think they were only made in 15mm rod 100mm spacing like for the element techinica 15mm baseplate. Otherwise you could probably make a spacer out of Delrin or something and use it with that Red 19mm universal mount. Would be an easy way to go.

A combination of a fat focus ring and a fat gear on the follow focus does the trick. Most follow focus manufacturers (Arri, Chrosziel, etc.) make an optional fatter gear that usually allow about an inch of travel.

Hey Shawn,

I see 10x25 support pieces on ebay off and on. Here are a couple. Mayby you could modify one of those Arri 2C camera supports to work with your mattebox rods. What's nice about them (besides the fact that they were made by Arri) is that you have three axes adjustment which makes for quick set up. I've seen them go for a lot less then what this guy was asking all though this one was in very nice shape.

Great find Shawn,

Is the lens 35MM or 16MM? I've been looking at the 16mm 17.5-70mm Ang.

Hey Shawn,

I see 10x25 support pieces on ebay off and on. ,

I THINK there is no need for some kind of heavy support . we used redrock
15mm lens support as shown here

BTW i have an extra lens .put i couldnt rehouse it with PL Mount cause no
Camera techinecian here .if some one interrest i could show it for him .

The 6x20 is a superior lens both optically and mechanically. That is not to say that a 25-250 cannot be a good lens, but their mechanical construction is almost exactally like the 12-120 that was built for 16mm use. This was in my book a bit under engineered for a lens of that size and weight. The one thing that I use to like about the 25-250 was that I could strip one down to componets in about 15 minutes which made for fast overhauls. Use to do 2 or 3 aday sometimes. lol
