  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm looking at the Matrix Systems 4k, BaseLight8 and DVS Clipster as my 4k post options.... so I was thinking; I would come into Matrix Systems 4k (use that as my media manger, ect.), edit in Clipster and color correct in BaseLight 8. Now can I have Clipster and BaseLight8 pull the files from the Matrix Systems 4k or do I have to duplicate every single file for each system (which seems like the Matrix 4k System is useless at that point.)? I would be adding an Autodesk system on to that aswell for some FXs work.

Good God, how much of a budget do you have??

lol.... I put in about 800k for post for my feature.

Wouldn't it possibly be a bit more prudent to put, say, only $120K or so into it and hire a DI company to do it, likely getting a far better result than you can manage on your own? Frankly, what you quoted is not going to get you much more than one or two of the many devices you listed, once you consider the real costs of all of this stuff (construction, consoles, networking, storage, projection equipment, proper calibration, scopes, monitors, videotape equipment to create the video deliverables, and numerous other things you don't seem to be taking into account) - not to mention actual people with the skills to run it. Are you trying to build a post facility by using this one project to launch it? If so, I would re-examine what the business plan is and consider whether this is a financially sensible approach.

Does that 800k include the people you need to install, maintain and run the systems?

How much do you plan to add for storage, power backup and coolling systems?

It's not like they are plug and play.

Andrew -

I'd like to have a conversation with your investors.

In all seriousness ... if you have the cash, you might just want to hire me to consult and save yourself a ton of money and have a rock solid workflow.

Just sayin ...

Hi Andrew,

clipster shares uncompressed 4K in the background with several discreet systems, even while uncompressed 4K playback, however not with the smallest SAN.

Regarding matrix and baselight i am not sure, i have to phone the guys at matrix this week anyhow and will speak to their developers - but so could you, their head of rd is pretty precise and does take the time to talk en detail.

Do you plan a networked uncompressed 4K workgroup for your post?

Do you consult for uncompressed 4K on baselight, clipster and matrix or for scratch basing R3D workflows?

I am simply asking because their are -many- reasons for 4K uncompressed post workflows instead of redcode basing ones.

Yep, planning on networking everything together and using uncompressed 4k for post. And if it's not to much trouble, since you've got to call over there anyway, it would be great if you could ask them about it. The only phone I have is a cell phone and it doesn't include long distance in the plan (outside US).... so I'm sure the rate on a call like that, from here, would be horrible. Not to mention the time difference.

Thanks.

Sounds like your DI budget swallowed your phone budget.:whistling:

(Sorry, man - the setup was just too easy.)

Hi Andrew,
Just do it all in FCP and use the $800K to buy a really nice boat.
That would be my plan.........or an apartment in Rome.....
Mezmo dreaming........Andrew dreaming?

I don't have a MAC, and I'm not buying one just to make this camera useable; In all honesty I hate the mac os. If they ported Final Cut to windows, I might try it; but I don't see that happening any time soon (but that's their loss).
