in regards to red's base production package, etc., does element technica have an "equivalent" for everything and how much more (or less!) does it cost?

if the bad reports persist and aren't addressed about inconsistent and bad qc of red accessories ("not tight enough", "loose", etc), i unfortunately might have to consider other 3rd party vendors.

is element technica going to be at NAB?
 
With all these add-on from element technica well, I'm starting to think that the whole Red One body design is incomplete and should preferably be taken care of. A well attached EVF to the camera body is the responsability of Red company and account so much for the image of its product and shouldn't be left to a third party... or else all that is quite deliberate to give out some cake to the third party manufacturer too. I hope its not.
 
Wait a second. The 24" ultra rods are not recommended for the Optimo? What else are you going to use a rod of that length for? I may need to trade this length in for steel as we have a Optimo in our arsenal. Do they bend too much under that load? The 19's seem very stiff to me. Anyone? Stephen? Finner? Brook? Evin? Thoughts?

I guess the lightweight aspect is not as important because the optimo sure as hell won't be on my shoulder but I bought them for this purpose.
 
The idea behind the Ultra Rods was to develop a lower cost alternative to CF for hand-held work. We originally offered them in lengths up to 18" but found that with the 12" length of the RED body there was very little rod left for accessories behind the camera. With 24" rods you use 6"-8" of rod in front of the camera for FF and MB with 4"-6" behind the body for a battery or drive.

While the Ultra Rods work well in many studio configurations the payoff isn't nearly as big as when used for hand-held.

I like the fact that they use Google checkout. I also just set up a merchant account.

To start with, I will be ordering the 6" and 18" rods to replace the steel rods that I got from Red. Looking forward to the handheld system....

Hey Steven,
Does the EVF mount attach to the camera with only one 1/4" 20 bolt? By the way, love my ultra rods and I'm about to put my 1030 dovetail on my newly acquired 1030s. I'm glad you guys waited and figured out how to put holes in the base for mounting. I already used it on another head and it saved me the rental.

I know you guys are close to finishing the handheld system and I was just reiterating that I think that the handgrips should be more of a single bar with adjustable handle, other than the linked segments. I have found that over time, there becomes too much play in the rosettes in linked segment systems. That's just my two cents.
