Hello we just got the RED ONE come in a couple of days ago. I am not new to FCP and I am wondering how I can actually transfer the footage from the 16gb compact flash cards to a drive. Do I use a card reader or can I simply hook up the camera to the computer via USB? Which I have tried but failed. Please respond, I don't know where to begin.

Thanks for reading,
Petr

Use a good card reader. The Lexar Pro UDMA and SanDisk UDMA Firewire 800 readers are best.

I am having lots of luck with the Addonics esata card reader. A firewire 800 will bottleneck your transfers if your drives are sata. Also use a good checksum software. I like R3D data manager, which I use.
