Okay,

I have been holding my breath until a few other folks cranked out some indies on RED - so it's time ...

Dear RED,

Please create a Indies Shot on RED section on the www.RED.com website.

We all understand that indies will always take risk, and to convince a wider segment to adopt the technology - it is obviously why Red should promote the fact that Studio films and big movies with big stars are shooting on Red.

Good enough for the best, good enough for the rest. Understood.

And we also all know that many indies films are ... well ... a bit rough around the edges, or just flat our bad - that being said - I think it also speaks volume that MANY indies are shooting features on Red cameras - and I think the general public has no clue.

And some of these indies on RED will get released and/or be seen at major international film festivals.

I suggest the following:

Separate section under "SHOT ON RED" called "Indies on RED" or "Indies Shot on Red"

Artwork thumbnail w/title and LINK to filmmakers site for the project.
This is also a nice way to kinda give something back to those filmmakers busting their ass and yankin' CF cards ...

Thanks in advance for your consideration!!

Sincerely,

Red Warrior

That is a terrific idea.

I 2nd this.

I see potential problem, nevertheless, I agree with this suggestion in spirit.

Are you talking about bad pictures giving RED a bad name kind of problems or rights problems?

Thanks god ! Finally no more arguing about Redone's renting price !!!

I think this is a great idea. Promoting indie content is a great way to give back to those supporting the RED development.

That said, it would beg the question: What do you consider an independent film?

Is it based on producing a film under a certain budget? How much? Or is it a film made without the intervention of a big studio? If it has worldwide distribution, is it an indie film? What about stars?

Clerks, Blair Witch, Pulp Fiction, and Little Miss Sunshine are all considered indie films, but they have vastly different budgets and resources.

Not saying we shouldn't have the indie section, just wanted to put out the question. Food for thought. :)

Some indie films are not only bad, but they are an embarrassment. I would prefer those not to be on the RED website.

By an embarrassment, I mean users that will buy the camera, but use two worklights to light an entire film (Not as a style, but simply because they did not thing they needed any more light, or it wasn't worth paying all that money)

:(

should I suggest "El Mariachi"...... two lights worked when it had to because of budget. It wasn't a style... It's what was available.

I think it's a great idea. If not by RED then by someone who can build a site and setup links and post posters....

who's going to screen them to decide what is bad or good ??
does Red hire a screener ?

possible qualify by confirmation in at least one film festival.....?

This really is a good idea. It would be great to have a list of indie films so we could watch for ourselves then see which ones we thought looked good, call up the filmmakers and ask them a few questions (those that are willing) about what glass they used, lighting equip, where they found the best price on all that.

For me, that would be one of the best resources I could have.

Mark I honestly think a year from now we should have an indie RED festival. maybe RED would be willing to loan a projector and 4k playback device to it. maybe they could give away a scarlet and accessories to the winner of Indie Red Festival. I think by then we would have many many films shot on RED. it could be a great event to meet up with other RED HEADs and exchange notes and just generally have fun and get to know everyone.

I would think that should be up to the RED staff. They could pick films that show off the cameras abilities as high quality 35mm film camera alternative.
I would think the standards would have to be technical more than aesthetic for the purposes of promoting the camera.
