Hi Andrew,
I don't see the "attached thumbnails" that you mentioned for you Birger Adapter controller.

Hans, meet Sanjin. Sanjin, this is Hans.

(get a room, you two)
yeah yeah, I recognize the cynical remarks from people who in the past settled for nikon or canon when they should have bought leica or hasselblad. But that's okay, many pretty pictures have been taken with nikon and canon (though everyone really caring for image quality in the world of photography goes for zeiss or leica, ofcourse)

Even in Japan where are the most Nikon's and Canon's designed and made.

Does anyone know if Doug's mount has the pin lock mechanism?

Hi,
I got my nikon mount off Doug on tuesday. Works like a charm!

The mount has the little nikon lock pin on the mount face, and the release button on the left side.

Just waiting for my new Macbook Pro to be delivered, then I'll post some footage.

Ed.

or
arri...
or
angenieux...
or
cooke...
or
optica...
or
sigma / red...
or
etc.

i guess you wont hear cynical remarks from buyers of those.

unless angenieux denies zeiss or leica the use of patented retrofocal design or sigma doesnt sell leica glass of the needed quality or ...

someome with not average optic requirements as cooke/leica/nikon/zeiss/arri/canon (i.e. movie makers/photographs) needs the HQ optics glass for -real- precision optics, as in military (airborne laser/spysats...), quality assurance (airbus/boeing...), astronomics (hubble/VLT......), radiology (siemens/thales...), fiber (ibm/hp)...

face it, no matter if leica or canon, hasselblad or nikon, panavision or sigma: photographic lenses for still and moving images are mediocre level.

we have 0.5-0.05 mm tolerances in our industry. 0.000000000000001 nm are catastrophic for most of HQ optics.

*ducks*

I'm serious. You two have to go shoot together when you get your Leica mounts. Then you can start showing us what RED can really do. I'm looking forward to it.

To me to whole interchangeable lens mount is a big part of the genius of RED. Any lens you want to shoot through - there will be a way to do it soon.

(BTW Nikon makes the lenses that Intel shoots their CPU wafers with. Think they are about $25 million each)

Jay,

Just saw the youtube clip of your son and his dog, very heartwarming! Those two would make great subjects for a RED clip.

Got my mount... I'm loving it. Those of us that got the early models are sporting a lovely silver look for the spring!

The rest of you will get them black!

Jay

Doug was talking about covering the early ones in black fur for that 'special' look. :clown2: Probably give some audio benefits too.

Personally I like the silver, it's like a lens ring light.

Nikon 500mm Mirror Lens

Nikon 500mm Mirror Lens

I am having more fun than a person should be allowed to have. I put a 500mm Mirror lens on Doug's mount.

It's an F8 !!! I need a sunny day just to use it well, and.. you bet, CLOUDS! Shit!

There's no apature on the lens (Which you pros know already, I am still learning) but NDs will work fine.

There's a camera store in town that LOVES playing with the RED and the mount so they suggested I take this lens out and see what it does.

If we like what we get, then we'll go for a 1000mm next!

God this is fun...

Jay

Hai laguun,
you are obviously more of an expert than I am, but I'm slightly confused by your message. I thought we were discussing the quality of photo lenses, and as far as I know, if you wanted to go a step further than nikon, canon, minolta, pentax, tamron etc, you looked for lenses by leica, hasselblad/zeiss, schneider, rodenstock. As a photographer I never heard of still lenses available from arri or angenieux. Surely you don't mean to say that someone who spent 6000 dollars (not that I did) for a lens for his hasselblad wasted his money and might as well have bought a nikon lens for a couple of hundred. As I understood lenses from cooke etc. were so much more expensive mainly because few people buy them whereas still lenses are sold buy the tens of thousands, but maybe I am wrong. Did you mean to say that lenses for cinema cameras need to be of a much higher quality than lenses for cameras like hasselblad?

Arriflex does not and has not built lenses for their cameras. Angenieux has made many many different lens for still cameras.

Thanks for the footage from the Nikon mount. It was awesome. The photos of the mount was way cool!
