  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I was going to add this to the end of the "UK Import Duty" thread, but realised that it applies to all countries in the EU so thought I'd start it from scratch.

I'd like to compile a complete list of Import Duty codes and rates for the Camera and it's various accessories. If anyone who has already taken delivery would like to help fill in the gaps please post below and I'll keep this first post updated.

What we know so far:

Camera - 8525 801990 - 4.9%
Lenses - 9002 110090 - 6.7%
Drives and CF Cards - 0%

Not sure of the code for that last one as the TARIC database is playing up.

We could do with knowing:

Production Pack
Batteries & Chargers
EVF
LCD
CF Module (is it different if attached to the camera than it is separate?)
Various mounts & other accessories (what's the "Bolt Set" classed as???)

And anything else I've missed.
 
Here's some info on the harmonised codes:

Battery pack - 8507.80.0000
Camera - 8525.80.5050
Drives - 8471.70.9000
LCD - 8531.20.0020
8gig card - 8542.32.0023
Various cast handles etc - 7616.99.5060
Rods - 7228.40.0000
Bolt set - 7318.22.0000

Tshirt - 6109.10.0013 (Well you have to look the part.....)

For what it's worth my total order came in at 14834.39 and I was charged 64.90 admin and 2596.01 in VAT. There was no breakdown of import duty so I'll be claiming the full 2596.01.

Interesting - are the US export codes harmonised with the EU import codes then? So whatever has been classified for export (looking at your post and Brian's from another thread) should tally with import codes?

When you say you were charged £2596.02 VAT, is that from your FedEx invoice? If so I reckon you might find you get a more precise breakdown from customs in the post before long, detailing what was VAT and what was Duty.

Long time reader first time poster...

My Red is due June-ish and although I've budgeted for around 22% import duty and VAT I'd rather try not to pay... I know that RED don't allow pickup but do you think they might make some kind of exception for international orders?

I've got an ivisa and am quite happy trying to smuggle my RED into the UK- worst case is they stop me, I plead ignorance and they bill me anyway!

I would love to be able to pay £300 for an air ticket instead of £3,000 for import! If I do manage to collect will I have to pay CA state tax??

Has anyone else ever tried this??

I don't think the US harmonised codes match EU import codes unfortunately - or at least putting in US codes into an EU TARIC code calculator, they weren't recognised.

Annoying...
 
They partly match. The first six digits are (supposedly) harmonised throughout the world. The final four digits are country specific, so it is of some use. If you put 852580 into the TARIC calculator (which has been having a very bad day) it will get you in the right ballpark. You can then do the rest yourself.

I'd like to know what codes HMRC have actually been applying to items though, rather than what the calculator suggests they should.

hey guys... here is a story....i got a jvc gyhd 11e from dubai and brought it down to bombay... and paid about 80 pounds at the costumes as bribe... and now in india its ok.. but then later i had this question... as indie film maker if they wanna keep traveling with their camera and every time they enter a country they will have to pay import duty... if so they they better be making hell lot of money by indie film....

i know this is RED only but the topic is import duty in uk...

i am planing to move to uk with my gy hd 111e.. and may be come back to india.. so every trip i make i will be paying 2 time the import duty one in india and the other in uk.. does any one has any idea bout htis.. or is it only once?!

My figures are in sterling (I'm London Based).

Checked with Fedex and the amount charged was all in. I then got a document from Customs detailing this amount as my vatable total for non eu items for the period. So as far as I'm concerned that's it dealt with.

for what its worth to anyone I got VAT itemised separate to Import duty and admin fee.

off the top of my head VAT was around 2500 but import was around 700. I guess it depends on what you order. Admin was 80 ish.

Generally what you get charged may well be wrong, the downside is they have a very long window to correct their mistake (5 Years I believe)

?!? well I have imported in italy and I have payed for the body (i don't know exactly how becouse they have to ship the detailed bill) Eu have the same duty import everywhere... only VAT is changing...
