forgive my ignorance but isnt the whole point of a dovetail to allow it to shoulder mount?
The ET set-up doesnt seem to have any pads for the shoulder - wouldn't that think hurt? Also if you needed the rods to extend to the back of the red (to mount cradle etc) then it looks like the rods are lower than the dovetail - again making it not practical for a quick release shoulder mount.
i must be missing something.
The dovetail is for mounting to a shoulder mount, tripod, or any other camera support system you would like. By using an ARRI compliant dovetail base (what ET has made for RED), it will fit any ARRI dovetail plate so it can be used with ARRI compliant hand-held systems, ARRI dovetail tripod plates, ET's own dovetail tripod plates, etc..
The main advantage of a sliding dovetail is it allows you to slide the camera quickly to place the center of balance over the center point of your mounting system.
