The write speed quoted in specs like that is a burst speed. It is not a sustained write speed. While it may be able to burst to that speed, it could very well choke on ~30MB/s sustained write.

That's an interesting question:
Would you be able to upgrade the capacity of the REDDrive with future [bigger capacity] laptop drives, which would reside inside the REDDrive body and function the same as the current ones?
Fundamentally no, we'd need to do some work on the firmware first as the RED-DRIVE and camera are "tuned" to each other. Think of it this way - its not like a word processor where the absolute response time to a data request really isn't an issue, being a real time device we need to know for sure when things will happen.
