  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I have the 8 processor Mac Pro Tower and have had consistent problems trying to export a batch of raw 4K images out to HD in various codecs. After converting one or two of the R3D files in the timeline sequence the program runs quickly through the last few files and outputs 1 long MOV with the first few shots perfectly rendered and then freezes on a still frame for the rest of the project. I end up with a 5 minute clip the first 10-20 seconds of which is motion video and the remainder is just one long frozen image. As I said I have tried several codecs. I have tried setting the viewer resolution to the lowest setting so as not to overly tax the processor. I have 4 gig of ram and a fast graphics card. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I spent all night rendering files files one at a time for the following day's edit session. It is not something I want to have to do again.

i have the same setup as you and the exact same thing happened to me especially when i tried to render out ranges. so i stopped trying to do that and i also clear out the redcine library folder by running the redcine reset utility (special thanks to anders (do a search for reset under his name for his posts)) before every use of redcine. that has helped a lot so far. not a real fix for all the bugs in redcine but it makes it just stable enough to get stuff done.

also, it has been discussed in other threads and it's counter intuitive but you should set your previewing resolution to the higher or highest setting for the quickest render out. you might need to experiment between the settings because it doesn't seem to be based solely on the quality of settings but one setting will always render out faster than the other preview settings. at least you won't be wasting as much time to find out it frozen.

Interesting about setting the preview to the highest resolution. Lucas told me that the transcode is faster setting it to a lower preview. Is this not what you are seeing?

I have a totally different setup than you, and I get the exact same bug (PC, nVidia Quadro FX 3450). RedCine does a beautiful if slow job on one or two r3d files. But add three or more and I get the last clips rendered out as a still frame from the second r3d file. Maybe it reaches a maximum file size and crashes?

As far as setting to highest resolution view before rendering, I tested all of them, and at least when rendering to DNxHD, it made no difference to my render times whatsoever.

Same problem here, after some time it freezes...
Can you be more specific where to find the reset tool?
thanx!

 We have the same problem on a 3Ghz 2xquad G5 with 4G of ram and ATI HD2600 graphics card. Redcine whips through the first 3000 or so frames no problem but then freezes with the resulting quicktime having the frozen frame for the rest of the duration, ie if theclip has 8000 frames the quicktime will be fine for the first 3000 and frozen on a single frame for the remaining 5000.
This happens with any quicktime codec. A work around is to export larger clips as Tiff or DPX ( dpx will carry the metadata ) and use Quicktime pro or Aja DPXtoQT application to render out to quicktime mov.
