i am wondering if anyone out there has any info regarding the difference in image quality b/w 2K DPX v.s. 2K Uncompressed 10 bit - Quicktime?

at first our consultant told us to go with a 2K DPX finish - but we are not mastering to FILM. furthermore we are not using DI at all. so i question the DPX master v.s. 2k uncomped master. lastly using glue tools to put a quicktime wrapper on the DPX files might degrade quality anyway???

THX killas!

Uncompressed Quicktime 10bit is 4:2:2.....

Problem with Kona's 10-bit RGB 4:4:4 if you're using Final Cut, though, is that FCP only does 8-bit in RGB mode. What we really need is a 10-bit 4:4:4 codec that presents itself to FCP as being YCbCr.

For Kona's 10bit 4:4:4 to work as 10bit in FCP it would HAVE to represent itself as 32bit float YCbCr. But I don't know for certain - so ask AJA and report back please.

Does anyone know if you use the Blackmagic RGB 10 bit codec in FCP does the output only drop down to 8 bit in the effects and transitions or does the whole exported finished project drop down to 8 bit?

As others suggested you can maintain 10 bit in FCP by using YUV 422,
The Coremelt Plugins also help with this.
8 bit RGB only for FCP.
