I have a couple of weeks open for rentals this month.

From now until March 12th, and between March 20th and March 29th.

Here is a quote from a successful shoot last week:

The video and audio worked flawlessly and magnificently. I'm still jealous. Again, I'm very impressed with the ease of use of your camera and with the various ways of configuring the add-ons. Not to mention 4K and a S35-size CMOS chip!

Nice kit Rick!

How are the drives holding up and what type of media storage do your clients walk away with?

Dave

This isn't Rick's kit (although he did joke about eloping with it).

I am donating the use of my RED for a documentary called "What I Meant to Tell You: An American Poet's 'State of the Union'" about Peter Kane Dufault. My friend (Peter Dufault) is Assistant Editor, his uncle (Ethan Dufault) is the Director, and Rick Sands is the Camera Op/DP.

They shot at 4K 16:9 using the Red Drive and then just handed it off to the Assistant Editor to transfer to the RAID.

Here is a clip from the doc. Note: this doesn't contain any of the RED footage.

Hey Curran,

Is that Pelican 1620 to heavy to fly with as checked baggage?
What does it weigh in at?

Ed.

For what it's worth, I've flown a bunch of times with a pelican 1620 as checked baggage.
Can't quite remember the exact weight, but I think it came in at about 46 lbs.

I haven't had a chance to weigh the Pelican case. Eventually it will hold a VFS Mirus moco head along with a couple other items. Anyway, I don't think you are allowed to carry 4 RED bricks in checked baggage.

Which foam type in the Pelican 1620?

Which foam type in the Pelican 1620?

Curran,

Do you know if that is the closed cell polyethylene foam or the open cell foam in your case? Some websites for Pelican cases don't make any distinction, but the Pelican site below advises the closed cell foam for heavier items.

Rob, it is the open cell "pick n pluck" type of foam. I eventually want to some laser-cut anti-static closed cell foam made. But this works fine for a temporary solution.

Curran, I remember seeing a discussion on the Lithium batteries and flights, but can't seem to find it. From what I remember, checking bags with two bricks for an overseas flight should not be a problem. Do you happen to know where the thread on this might be?

Re the foam, seems like a lot of people are going with pick and pluck.

I don't have anything very fragile in my Pelican case so the pick n pluck works fine. I had to make a shelf out of cardboard and duck tape so I can remove the top section to access the bottom. Works fine for a temp solution.

Looks like I have to install 2 batteries on the charger, or put them in heavy duty plastic bags for the checked baggage. Carry-on baggage for the other 2 batteries.

Thanks - big help. On one of the threads an official responding to an inquiry by Anders Holck said he "wouldn't support" the battery charger as a "device" for the battery to be installed on, so I'm thinking that wrapping them individually in the heavy duty plastic bags is the way to go for bricks in checked bags.
