So as the title says it, my Monday at Griffith Observatory. Also just a little FYI for people looking to get some shots up there. Monday is the best time because the Observatory is closed so you don't have those people bothering you. All the info that I believe that most people would want to know about this clip is at the head of it. Sorry for the large file sizes.

Very cool....

How do you like the camera overall so far? They are going to be calling me soon!!!!

Very nice...

Jim

Nice. Really crisp and clean.

I did seem to notice some choppiness in the pans? Maybe it's my comp lagging or the compression?

The choppiness that you see is because of the shutter speed. Or at least I think that might be what your seeing. If I had it at 1/48 shutter it would have been a little smoother. But it was really bright out there and most of the time I had the f-stop around f~16-20.

That was really awesome man!

I was out there on Monday too. We probably just missed eachother

I was looking for you Rich because I remembered you saying something about how you were going to be out there. I think I was there around 1 or 2.

Glad you guys like it. I just can't wait to do some night timelapse with the Red once that's all figured out. I also want to go back out to the Observatory again around sunset because from the stuff you posted Rich. It looks really nice out there at magic hour.

Great footage Drew thanks for posting!

As the 4K work-flow is a hot topic, can you tell us what steps you took to convert the footage, color grade it, down convert it and post it as an MOV?

Dave

I worked in Redcine and did all my grading in there. Then I exported just enough of the shots that I had taken to put something together. I exported the clips in 1920x960 ProRes (HQ) and then imported those clips into FCP. It takes a while to export one clip at a time. But I find other stuff to do between renders. Then out of FCP and into QT for h264.

Drew, beautiful work, I showed friends last night and they were into it. You got a lot of very good comments.

Thanks for also going over your workflow.

Looks great. I was wondering about the pans and tilts as well, but maybe it was just a combination of shutter speed and my computer playback.

Well as most of us know there's a speed to move the camera on pans that relates to shutter speed. I was going a little faster than I should have at the higher shutter speeds and that's why there's a very slight stutter. Its something that has to be watched on all cameras and not just the Red.

Glad you guys liked it. BTW the music is from the "Michael Clayton" soundtrack.

Amazing. I just saw Michael Clayton yesterday- wasn't paying attention to the soundtrack I guess...
