i shot 16:9 4k this weekend including 1 channel of audio on the red for the first time. if redcine and redalert don't currently support audio and my proxies won't work because i shot 4k at 16:9 (stupid, but that was the format of choice) how am i going to edit a sync sound cut?

is there any easy way to extract the audio from the r3d file and then re-sync it in fcp?

should i have shot anything but 4k 16:9 so that the audio could have been extracted from the proxies? can the audio even be extracted from proxies so that it can then be re-united to the cc image?

should i just sit tight and wait for redcine and/or redalert audio support? (any day now...)

what are some other sync sound workflows that people are running into or developing?

sorry about all the questions but this is my first use of audio on the red and i'd like to provide the director with a few answers to his questions.

Open the preview movs, and export an aiff.

How does one even confirm audio recorded at camera/Red Drive?
Audio levels via metering & monitoring are present EE or during record.
Playback yields no level indication or output at either headphone or audio out jack. Operator error? This is Build 13. Thanks.

build 14

build 14

build 14 plays back audio fine on the red camera side with levels and all. i had to show the director the takes by running out the preview monitor and taking audio out of the headphone jack. messy but it worked in a pinch.

if you can't even playback your audio in camera to confirm it, it's time to upgrade to build 14.

update:

so i was able to open the bad quicktime proxies just long enough to extract the audio. audio is fine and i'm happy to resync in fcp but...

i have over an hour of raw 4k 16:9 r3d stuff that needs to be converted in a fcp friendly format. when i try to batch process my clips in redcine, it always freezes (not redcine but the motion in the quicktime clip created) after about the first 30 seconds with no indication that there i a problem until 5 hours later when i proceed to watch a 5 hour freeze frame. processing individual clips seems to work but i have over 50 clips at several minutes each. this will add up to days and that's assuming there are no crashes.

i need a quick and dirty output of dailies for basic editing decisions. what's more stable for batch processing, redalert or redcine?

i am running quicktime 7.3 on leopard with the latest red software installed.

See if you can get a hold of assimilate - maybe they have a new build that fixes the render issue. Lucas, you out there?
