Hi there,

We took lots of pics documenting the arrival of red 185 to mexico city. We've been so busy playing with it and our new scratch system that just until we had the chance to put these up.

Check them out here: www.redrentalsmexico.com and also check out our new webpage, we're still working on it so comments will be appreciated.

Any way, enjoy the pics, hopefully they will help people see and understand how Red ships the goods and what's included in the packages.

Thanks,

I see bad quality anodizing job on the bottom plate and side handles.
On the pictures posted in RED store we see much better quality job.
Also this type of anodizing is prone to scratches and in two months of use it will look like s#4t
This is not acceptable.

The first complete visual overview for me, of a standard RED kit , thanks.

Thos sweet little boxes... that smell like the 21-st century...

Element Technica is what you want.

Hola Luis. Felicidades!

I can guarantee you'll be extremely busy! #84 and #85 have been working like dogs since we got them to Mexico, and I'm so very happy to have more cameras down here! Hopefully we can send you guys some work to cover those triple-bookings, etc. Drop me a line. :-)

Luis,

What are you going to do with all those side handles and other junk you ordered? Looked like a lot of extra accessories to me...

Jeff you obviously have never been on a mexican bus! Mexican's can "pimp out" things better then any country I have been to. Luis will have a Virgin Mary, dingle balls and a set of fuzzy dice hanging off of #185 faster then you can say "Tachiro Taco Bell". Those extra handles are going to come in real handy!

I think African bus drivers might see that different :)

Very nice set of pics! I should mention that viewers will likely want to scroll around the top of the page for the speed bar. It took a while to find it.

Big congrats on the system!

It's actually "Yo quiero Taco Bell," which means I want/love Taco Bell. Tachiro Taco Bell is more like some Mexican-Anime flick coming soon. :clown2:

Tried to google the right spelling when I wrote it and that was the closest I could find.

Haha... This thread really took a nose-dive.

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies, I'm glad our photos are being useful to some of you.

Andrew, we were indeed disappointed to see the finishing of the items you mention. apparently the problem is only aesthetical, the casted pieces have performed flawlessly and seem as sturdy as the machined ones. The thing is that this pieces are really easy to scratch and simply don't look as good as the others, plus the kit is no longer uniform in the finishing and that's a shame given how much thought Red gave to the looks of the camera. Regardless, this is something that RED should mention in their webpage as it is not what you think you're buying. hopefully they will address it soon, or at least chime in on the thread you opened. In the mean i'll post closer photos of the items for all to see.

Karapetkov, thanks for your words, and glad to be of service. Let me know if I can help with anything.

Rune, thanks for your kind words, we definitely should meet to talk about joining forces. I'll try to contact you next week, but we're busy as hell so might be a a little later. Are you in Mexico city?

Jeff, I don't see none of the stuff we acquired as 'junk'. It's also not overkill for our applications. Your needs might be different so there's the beauty of modularity. As general info. this is what we got:

Delivered:
-Camera with CF module
-Base prod. kit
-4 side handles
-Additional top mount
-top handle ext.
-LCD
-quickplate
-3 universal mounts
-left handle
-handle mount
-4 CF
-6, 12, 18 and 24 rails
-focus hook set
-18-50mm zoom
-300mm lens
-2 power packs
-2 bolt sets
-15 mm adapter

Awaiting delivery:
-Viewfinder
-2 drives
-Camera cart
-cheese plate
-ET 19" base plate
-wingnut kit
-additional EVF cable
-2 spare lens rear caps
-add. BNC to Din
-add. mini xlr to xlr cable and adapter
-9" red arm
-belt clip for battery
-50-150 mm zoom
-Prime lenses kit

It seems we will go with Panther tripods with a T45 head, it's a really sweet and light system and a lot cheaper than o'connor. I also very recently purchased the Zacuto quick release system for the LCD that Evin created and it's really a must. It makes setting up the camera really fast.

As you see we're trying to have a complete package to offer for rentals. We've already used everything we have so for us, it's seems like a good investment. It's also important to keep in mind that we have 2 more cameras coming and they will all share some of the accessories.

Finner, indeed the base plate, shoulder dovetail and cheese plate isn't nowhere as good as it should/could be. The ET base plate is truly amazing in quality build and funcionality (I saw it last week for the first time in Red's headquarters). I pitty we didn't include it in our initial order. Also, the red handles really, really suck and ET base plate allows using Arri accesories, which in our opinion is a must for handheld. I'm pretty sure we'll eventually acquire the complete ET collection for Red.

Regarding the mexican way of pimping everything to the extreme, I usually get by with only the virgen in my wallet (I guess I'm a rebel)... Also, Taco Bell is an insult to mexican gastronomy!!!

Finally, as a side note, we're finishing setting up our on set backup system and monitoring setup via HDMI and cheap LG LCDs (HDSDI will be also available if preferred). We are also offering the complete post workflow via FCP and Scratch and we have an agreement with Renta Imagen (A big rentals company here in Mexico) so we can also offer Arri accessories, master and ultra primes, cookes, and almost any lens you could need plus any additional lighting and grip equipment you could require. We aim to be a truly one stop production/post facility and it's going prety well!

Any questions or comments don't doubt to contact me.

Thanks,

Hola Luis, how much weight can the Panther T45 Head handle and whats the price going for it?
gracias

Hola Jonna, it handles 45kg and goes for 6k or 7k euros me thinks. You should contact Aki Schirmer at panther and he'll give you a good deal.

Hehe, I was just goofin' with you. And it looked like you got more than what's on your list. As for the side handles, I think you'll find they're pretty much worthless as handles. But they are excellent for mounting stuff. 4 may be overkill, but 2 are extremely useful if you have extra gear to side-mount.

And yes, the RED grip handles scare me. Arri equipment for handheld operation is a must here. Also keep your eyes open for what Element Technica is cooking up. :) Their gear is top-notch, as you have seen from their Arri baseplate.
