  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

seen something that will change everything

Finer that's a smart move actually. We have two REDs and while they are cool to have and do testing with, the workflow is VERY frustrating right now. We are still using our HD cams for any serious work right now.

Ya I really wish the post workflow was open or at least the companies that have the rights made it a bit more of a priority then it has been. Scratch seems great but their price is just to high for 98% of owners to justify. It would be nice if scratch would follow the red price point model as they would sell thousands of seats compared with the 100 or so that will be sold to high end post houses. It must be kind of nice for red to be off the hotseat with the camera as they seem to have the camera running well enough that most everyone is pretty happy. It's just unfortunate that the post bottleneck is making a very attractive camera more of a fancy paper weight for now.

I guess I will have to wait for NAB as solutions may come forward then. There is a seriously ripe market for the company that can get a fairly priced editing solution up and running. I would think red must be really frustrated that they have created this great camera and are cranking out cameras on the assembly line but are running into a brick wall when it comes to actually being able to do something with the footage.

Soon. Like I haven't heard that here before. What are my options NOW?

RedTrip works. It's just not very fault tolerant...but somewhat. I'm hoping to get Rainer all the way through one of his projects soon.

If you organize your project well and don't do too much crazy stuff in the timeline, Redtrip can serve you well.

Ian, will you be out at NAB this year?

Eh,

I'd have to do it low budge. I probably need a hotel room... etc. I'm independent, so, I'd only go if some company wanted me out there and made it cheap for me... Answer: I haven't thought about it too much....

IBloom

(if there was a Red specific conference, I'd drop some serious cash to be there though.)

This is my major concern.

Ian. It sounds exciting. I hope you can expand your explanation sometime soon.

There are some Red specific events going on (Directors of Photography Conference).

But I'd like to get a group together to discuss post workflow. A think tank that could throw around some ideas, discuss what we learn at NAB, etc. You can do Vegas for pretty cheap. There are many vendors who can get you into the show with a code so you don't have to pay. You can find cheaper hotels off the strip, and that leaves flight which you might be able to search for a cheap flight somewhere.

I wasn't going to go this year, but I really need to do some investigating while out there for good solutions in regards to Red post.

Hi Finner,

That was exactly my thought until I figured that they need to much high end hardware to make it work 100%. My guess is that if you contact them for a solution the discount on the software is fair but the price is still high because of the hardware needed? Correct me if I'm wrong but that was what I figured.

(It's so nice for me to read this thread because I've brought up my post fear in a lot of other threads and always felt as if I was alone, thinking this. It's always nice to see that you're not).

This would be a great idea. As an editor all I really care about is smooth post workflow so I can highly recommend that clients shoot on RED. I'll let all the DPs take care of the acquisition part. Right now I can't say I'd recommend it as the post workflow isn't there just yet.

If someone does get a RED post discussion group together at NAB please post a thread to discuss!

awesome idea. i was giving some passing thought to the DP thingie but what a waste of time the sunday session seems to be, and why pay for a day that you're not going to use....i just care about the RED workflow.

No offence but posts like this are just pointless...

"I have seen something coming to us, that will change everything.
I have seen light where darkness is"

At least give some vague clue as to if its a cure for cancer, an Avid plugin or a perpetual motion machine or a new kind of scientology.

how does it help all the users here who daily give feedback to others to help them solve problems ?
