Congrats, man!

Mr. Robinson

That is really an awesome accomplishment. Congratulations! If you ever want to teach an aspiring director let me know!

AKIRA!

One of my favorite anime's, can't forget ninja scroll or Fist of the North Star, or Vampire Hunter D, or Cowboy Bebop.....

Hehe too many favorites.

Good job Ruari, If I can help in any way, I'd be ecstatic to join in!

Couple questions, will it be shot on RED?

Have you ever read the novel, "Altered Carbon" by any chance?

Actually yes I've read Altered Carbon and dug the hell out of it. Also read two drafts of scripts they were trying to make. Love the whole Needlecast thing...

Re: shooting on Red - too early to say at this point! (esp. since I'd want to shoot with anamorphic lenses)

Cheers!

Yes, Congratulations!! Akira is the only anime film that I actually own. So all eyes will be on you to do it justice  (just kidding) No seriously, congratulations!

Congrats indeed!

How's that for a mostly "unknown and unproven" director getting the nod to helm the adaptation of what's arguably the most famous and influential anime of all! For all those cynics out there claiming there's no way for the "small people" to break through into the big time, here's yet another proof. I'm sure there's a complex sinergy and combination of factors that got together to make this happen for Ruairi, but in the end, there he is, ready to make his debut with what is undeniably a high profile project.

I mean, who was Peter Jackson before LOTR, what had he really done to make trustwhorthy of one of the most ambitious film projects of all time? He'd just done a few cute little horror no-budget thingies, the type that don't really raise awareness among studio executives, and a very well written Heavenly Creatures and the obscure Frighteners, and with just that under his belt he went to become one THE directors of our time. Endeavor to prove thy mettle and thou sall be rewarded...

Congratulations! It's an incredible achievement to break through it all and get such a cool project to boot! Enjoy the ride.
