Am traveling for a month in May and interested in what the weight of a 'stripped-down-for-guerilla-shooting' RED kit will be. (excluding tripod)
Say I get a Pelican or two and squeeze in -
- a body
- viewfinder
- lcd
- battery charger and 2 batteries.
- 1 red drive
- 1 red 18-50

... estimated weight?

I figured
10lb- a body
03- viewfinder
01- lcd
05- battery charger and 2 batteries.
02- 1 red drive
05- 1 red 18-50

That's 26lb. I've noticed that people are posting configuration weights that seem far higher than what I thought they'd be. I'm trying to figure the weight business out for handheld work, and how to configure the gear that's actually on my shoulder. Are these numbers inflated because of adding a 'err on the side of caution' factor when choosing a tripod, or steadicam or jib work, or am I just f**king up the math on what this stuff weighs?

Here a short list... Not updated with the viewfinder and the red drive.

merci beaucoup etienne. So my math isn't that bad. Why are people quoting heavy? Not taking anyone to task, don't get me wrong, just wondering why the overestimates?
EDIT: maybe i'm not adding the little extras? It seems somewhat important to get the weight accurate to figure out what's going to work for configurations.

Is RED supposed to be used as a handheld / for Run & Gun ?
Use Sony Ex1 for traveling until RED pocket camera is available.

what about
top mounts, top handle , rods for top of camera ? ..
where's the Red drive going to sit on camera ?
you need cradle ?
are you going with Red bottom or Red arri plate ?
handles ( for hand hold)?, handle mount ?
any rods needed on bottom of camera ?
IMO consider a 3rd batt ...

Do you compare EX1 with Red ;-)! 1/2" chips to start with.... And when will RED pocket cams start shipping? (Quite) strange proposition IMHO.

Here's an updated version of my list of weights:

EVF is missing because I didn't get it yet. :help:
300 mm lens is missing because my scale only goes up to 2000 grams.

News crews have been running and gunning with 30lb cameras for a long time. If you want the RED look you can do it. If you don't then the EX1 is an awesome video camera. I wish RED was that small.
