  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any news about Windows QT codec?

yes, windows RED QT codec is a must, and must come soon.

we use AVID for editorial and it is pretty cumbersome to have to use one of the only mac's here to redalert ref export, then import into mediacomposer on unity before i can edit on any of the avid systems here.

Not being able to choose your prefered platform seems against everything red stands for!?
Hope this is fixed before my RED comes...
Atleast they could give us info and timeframe for a conversion free windows workflow... I would hate to run out and buy macs only to find out the problem was solved a month later.

first the RGB goes, then the scaled RAW which means that there is no editing on anyother platform than mac without a serious conversion time penalty... Is there some kind of pattern here? did jim sign some silly papers for Apple back before NAB 2007, or why aren´t Graeme all over this? People wanna edit on a system of their own choosing...

No worries, as promised we will be integrating more this year. We are still doing some stabilizing of our current tools and adding features (audio support for example).

We simply do not have the man power to build everything for all platforms and integrate with everyone while still supporting it all. We'll be working hard on this in 2008

Thanks for your understanding,

The day you become well integrated with Adobe is going to be a great day!

Just to be certain: the Quicktime codec will offer the same quality of de-mosaic as REDCine right?

Yes, it will also support the 4K 16:9 clips!

I notice that in the manual it states:

"The REDCODE RAW QuickTime component permits REDCODE RAW footage to be displayed on Macintosh OSX or Windows XP personal computers with QuickTime Player V7.0 or higher."

Does this mean that you're pretty close to having this ready?
