I know this has been addressed before, but I'm pretty frustrated with the method of delivering important iformation to Red users and deposit holders.

I went away for 4 days over the holidays, and didn't have a chance to check out th forums (I TRY to check them out at least once a week). Immediately after the holidays, I started travelling for work, and shooting long hours.
Today I figured I'd try to catch up and see what was new with Red.

I come back to a multi-page thread about adjusted delivery dates, and a whole new sub-forum about a new camera (Scarlet).

Sorry, I'm not trying to be pretentious, but as a freelancer and small business owner, I just don't have the time to go through a 23-page thread about when my camera should be delivered. I'm not in a rush, but I can't keep giving my clients bad information.

I'm on the email list, but I've only gotten one email update in the last year.

Once I do get my Reds, am I going to have to visit the internet everyday to check for firmware updates?

Please, please, please use the email update option that you've offered us. Thanks in advance, Max Fischer, Gearhead Camera

Max Fischer? There's gonna be girls there -- I'd rather die. Pull your head out of your ass. (Sorry, I bet you hear that joke a lot.)

I think the "Adjusted Delivery Schedule" thread is the same old one that has been bumped up recently by others. But at this point, since they have nothing firm to tell customers about the delivery schedule, I don't see how an email to that effect would be especially helpful. Same with Scarlet -- it's just not very relevant to RED ONE reservation holders. IMO, the only thing worse than missing important posts on a forum is getting a glut of unimportant emails in my inbox, because then I'm more likely to ignore the ones that are actually important.

Why were you away for 4 days? Shooting a one-act film about Watergate?

I hate hate hate to say anything negative when I think this camera and company are a gift from God, but I agree with Gearhead - I don't have time to go through dozens of pages of posts every day to make sure I'm not missing anything.

No, I don't want three emails a week from Red, but the occasional "hey, there's a new firmware update" wouldn't hurt.

seeing how you are #1200, what email did you expect from Red, you arent even slated for delivery for a good while?

Regarding firmware, first off Red emails CAMERA OWNERS when a new version is posted. Since you dont have a camera you wont get that email yet...BUT, I have to ask why you expect them to babysit you. If you want to update the firmware get off your butt and look at the site, its really not that difficult.

As I posted yesterday, if it is critical information, we make a NEWS story on RED.com and/or email it to the customers that the information is relevant to. People who have received their RED ONEs do get "there is a new firmware release" email as only customers with a RED ONE delivered get access to download firmware. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems kind of silly to send an email to every reservation holder announcing a new firmware upgrade if they cannot download it... :)

And, like I posted yesterday, our methods of communicating with our customers are evolving, too. News usually hits first on REDUSER because it takes 30 seconds to post and that is a testament that as soon as we think it, it hits the boards. We then take the critical information and push to the parties that need it (via email and/or on RED.com). I hope everyone can appreciate the fact we attempt to target our communications so you don't get needless information cluttering up your Inbox.

As it gets closer to your delivery time, you will indeed get plenty of contact from RED, I promise you that. And, as we have more delivery timeline information available, we'll get it to you. If you haven't heard from us, it just means we don't have anything new and concrete to tell you.

We welcome feedback, keep it coming. We have shown we hear every request and are willing to act on that feedback...

I am getting more than enough contact from RED, and any question I ask is answered the same day, that said I am pretty sure it has something to do with being about 24 cameras away from delivery. If you have a number over 1000 or 2000 then I am willing to bet you could drop off the face of the earth for the next couple months and most likely not miss anything too important.

Gearhead and others If you go into your User CP settings you can set any threads important to you to get a daily or weekly e-mail of everything that was discussed. To subscribe to any thread you just need to make a post in the thread you want e-mailed to you. I know not exacly what you are looking for but would help keep you up to date by e-mail.

Jay, you are right but...

I'm right now "selling" a lot of REDONE projects to directors/producers who gather informations form other non reduser DoP's / Producers / whateverpeople... And they are getting bad informations (by not looking at this board) like "back focus problem" / no post solutions / 4k raw is huge amount of data /camera delivery problems.... and so on.

Only in this forum I can grab informations given by first hand people (like Jannar...) but it takes a lot of "work" to go through this pages. I'm not afraid of doing this kind of work but I can understand that others have regrettably not the time to do so. Only by knowing what is done and how are these problems adressed (the way of the metric scale issue on lenses) you can give fast answer and calm down the pressure put on this new technology and at the end to the enduser and renthouse.

I've never seen a REDONE, but I trust RED products on what I've seen as r3d files and played with it in redcine, and the potential of this medium.

I won't be able to sell a redone project if I'm my self not 100% sure about what it can, and what it can't do. And as "Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..." Specification changes and all day to day improvement "have to" be sent to reservation holders.

I don't know if this work has to be done by a moderator on this board where a lot of infos (good an bad ones) are mixed up. Or if this should only be a RED coporate statement tool.

Take a look at the "Birger Lens Mount Reservations" Thread with 374 replies and 38 pages... :help: Wow!!! I never looked at it, I'm too afraid to start!:whistling:

Thanks

Pat

gearhead, you can also make yourself a buddy list of jannard, jarred, and rob lohman, and now brent, and just read whatever they post, instead of filtering through all the commentary. makes it easy to get to the info and filter the noise...not that i've done it, i've gotten addicted to noise!

Gearhead-

Where in Richmond, VA are you? I used to live in Richmond and I know a bunch of guys in production work there. I am wondering if I know you.

Shoot me an email at statusfilms@yahoo.com when you have some time. Its such a small world, and I was shocked to see you are from Richmond.

I have 1753 and Kelly just told me to expect my camera in late February.

Late February, really ? That would make the delivery schedule even better than Jim's current most optimistic projection.

Jiminy jellickers, Radioactive Man !

I have 1753 and Kelly just told me to expect my camera in late February.

how do you get that info, did you email here and ask?

i have 1090 and have not been given a rough date for delivery.

does that mean i might get mine late this month seeing as how i have already paid in full for everything?

I have 1753 and Kelly just told me to expect my camera in late February.

Impossible. They are still busy delivering up to 300, no way they are going to produce 1453 cameras between now and end of february.
