Dear All,

I have a studio shoot coming up which will essentially be lit Tungsten 3200k. However, its a concept beauty shoot involving a model with a vast array of colour washes and effects lights kicking about (think model and set lit 3200 with tons of colour slashes, washes etc), aswell as colourful outfits and make-up that need to register well.

Does anyone have any tips for avoiding noise (as i'm basically shooting tungsten) and clipping of certain colours?

Would it be best to re - balance the camera to 3200k and work from there or optically filter up the camera first and shoot at daylight "preset" of the camera. I appreciate the 3200k balance option is only meta data but any ideas on what would be least problemtatic?

Many thanks in advance,
Cliff

It's only metadata but you do have less exposure in the blue channel and need to "push" it.

It depends how much light you have and how the different colored lights look compared to each other.

The only really good advice I can come up with is test test test.

Optically filtering will force you to expose a bit higher to compensate for the deficient blue channel.

Cliff you should use an CTB filter in your matte box (80A, B, or C) 80A is best but takes out 2.5 stops. You still need lots of light, it's just that the filter allows you to get enough blue from your orange source without clipping your red channel.
